Lithium batteries again....

don't think a lithium battery can sulphate
it still has the OEM YUASA lead/acid battery in it

don't have one of those 12V toasters handy
and don't want to take it to a nose picker to be tested :)

using my engine and assumptions as the load tester

TS complete
an hour on the charger - that I'm fairly confident in
and the battery is up to 100% charge

cranks like a mofo cold - voltage never drops below 10 V
run up to operating temp - shut down, surface voltage @ 13.1

3 warm starts and the cranking voltage drops to 8V
charger back on, battery back to 25%

ordering a new YUASA OEM battery

Oxidation I believe is the correct term for lithium battery degradation and there is more then one kind of lithium battery so that complicates things slightly.

Most of the Ducati's i have owned had tiny batteries and cables. They would turn over very slowly until i switched to a larger +cable. Made a big difference.

So I thought I changed my battery..it appears I forgot and didn’t as I didn’t have a real issue after my initial problems last season. Wondered why my bike didn’t start today after coming off the tender all winter...maybe because it’s at 4V? Weird...so I checked the tender pigtail fuse....gone, kaput. Replaced that and it’s charging ok now but whether it keeps a charge or not we will see.

Probably will have to change the battery. So, who delivers pretty quickly during these pandemic times? I’m also still toying with the idea of getting one of those lithium jobbies but that EarthX is now $500 smackers which is a bit too rich for my blood.

I ended up ordering a Shorai from GP, a little over 200
took 2 weeks to get - was not in stock
it is ridiculously small but higher CCA than the lead/acid YUASA

bike cranks better but still not completely happy with it
may just go back to the stock battery and try a heavier + cable

will keep this silly little thing and take it on long trips just in case
it really is that small and light, my camp stove takes up more space

I just ordered a Yuasa OEM and it cost me $220. Ordered a Yuasa battery maintainer too just to be sure. The Earthex I was looking at was out of stock. Also ponies up $22 fir shipping with UPS since Canada Post seems to be a lottery right now.
