hey everyone,
i want to lift my bike to clean the chain, my bike has no spools but i do have a chain hoist in my garage i use to take out motors. Is it ok if i tie straps to both sides of the swing arm to lift the bike?

likely a good way to tip your bike over, I think your balance point will be higher than that .

Or just stick 2 x 4 or 6" under your stand side of the swingarm end. It's not sturdy sturdy, but it will be more than enough to do your chain. I did it all the time before I bought a rear stand.

You can use a 1"X2", 13 1/2" long for exactly what you need.
Watch this video, and when he uses the 'click' thing - you use your left shoulder under the rear cowl to lift the bike, and place 1"x2" in the same spot. Be sure your bike is parked level, or on a slight incline - not a decline, or it'll run away from you.
When you're done, just kick the 1 by backwards, and out.

Just get some $10 spools a $50 stand and call it a day...you'll save yourself a bunch of hassle.

thank you all for your input, im actually waiting on a stand one of the old school ones that don't need spools.
but i didnt feel like waiting so i took garys advice with the 2 by 4, worked like a charm. thanks gary.
alot better than using straps to lift the bike

No probs...........If you need something for a long trip, a 1x2 usually fits under your seat, or in the back for lubing "on the go".

A fellow I ride with uses 1 inch PVC conduit. One with a flanged side and two other lengths. Nice and light.
