Hey all,
lve been dragging me *** in getting into some light touring but am finding more time now. I'm interested in doing a trip around lake Ontario. Has anyone done this? Approximate time required? Any tips?

Thanks!

It's not all that interesting as it's pretty flat.

PA or Finger Lakes or Lake Placid might be better use of limited riding time. PA is only 3-4 hours to very good riding roads.

That Seaway Trail is just so so - HWY 2 is okay but no riding challenge - same for Prince Edward County/ Bay of Quinte.

Depends on what you are looking for and how long you have. Likely you could tag with us to PA the long weekend. See the thread here

There is an iron butt for Ontario + Erie in 24hours.

I agree with MacDoc in that a Lake Ontario loop doesn't give the biggest bang for the buck. If I want to do a quick shakedown tour I head south of Buffalo and into either PA or Eastern Ohio. You can be there in 5-6 hours and if things aren't working out you can be home in about the same time. Lots of roads from superslabs to superfun.

I define light touring as getting away from it for a few days and enjoying the scenery. Setting a new personal best record on a particular road doesn't interest me. I'd rather enjoy the view at a leisurely pace. Eastern Ohio to me has a little more character.

BTW regarding Ironbuts, some states and US insurance companies put the boots to them by grouping them under trials, speed events or endurance events. Some states have hour / mileage limits over a 24 hour period.

OK thanks for the input guys! I've got only a day on the long weekend and want to make the best of it. Might stay around the region and maybe do a run around Algonquin or towards the 507/Elephant Lake area that some have done already.

Cheers!
