very interested in the ktm superduke for the new riding year of 2012.
i understand a 'street fighter' can't be compared to a racing bike, but how does the power of torque on the superduke match up to say a 600cc sport?
i was in calgary for 2 weeks and ended up renting a hyosung gt650, which was the worst bike i have rode on, but noticed and liked the differences between a supersport and touring bike...after 2 weeks of riding the hyosung gt650, going back to my super sport felt like a completely different ride. the amount of power i realized the super sport had in 1st gear in comparison to the hyosung gt650 was astronomical.

ktm's website; "The Super Duke combines a relaxed sitting position with merciless performance, high levels of functionality with a dynamic riding experience and high-tech with straightforward suitability for everyday use"

thanks

Provide a link to the bike you are considering. I like low cc bikes, still waiting for the duke 125 to appear in Canada and at what price. KTM's are motards, quite the contrast to SS bikes. If you are looking for a streetfighter consider a triumph triple speed or an aprilia shiver.

The Superduke is an upright supersport. It's stiff and unforgiving, the power comes on abruptly and pulls really strong to redline.

It's definitely NOT a touring bike, not even close.

If you are making a comparison between the SD and a Hyosung (or guessing that it may be comparable) it's not. The SD would kick the ever living **** out of that bike... even the little Duke (654cc) would eat it pretty much everywhere.

The SD is more like a 1000SS bike until mid-top end, where it would lose out to the higher HP, higher reving and more aerodynamic design.

You will however fall prey to the horrible wind buffering if you want to go fast 120 KPH+ for a longer distance. It can do it but it's not going to be very comfortable... The 990 SM T would be better suited to distance but still nowhere near a touring bike either.

about 90 lb-ft of torque down low on a 420lb bike is tons. The superduke will power wheelie prob 1-3 np. Supersports do have the top end on it but hit the twisties and your gone. Its a heavy weight supermoto so to speak.

The orange and black is the R model, you won't find that one for sale anywhere.

Are you for real? You are asking how a nearly 1000 CC's of stripped down naked twin Superduke compares to a little 600 sportbike?

After you ride a Superduke, a 600CC sport bike will feel like an electric scooter with a fully drained battery.

That there be a hooligan bike. Love the hard lines of the KTM's.
