KTM 690 Enduro - Mirrors!? and stuff.......

They apparently used loctite on the adjustment screws behind the boot. I honestly really doubt it though. I can move the mirrors with my pinky finger.

Yours have adjustment screws? Didn't see any on mine, just the ball pivot

The plate that holds the ball in place also adjusts the tension on the ball. I mistakenly called them adjustment screws. They are just .... screws ;)

Double Take mirrors look like this... They apparently work very well.

Kinda grates my cheese that I have to buy mirrors on a new bike.

Ok, was gonna suggest these that are on coworker's bike + RAM mounts. Looks like the same....

Those definitely look like double take mirrors. I know it's probably unfounded... but I worry about somebody stealing the ram mount and mirrors.

No, that's founded.

Can you replace the thumb screws on the RAM mounts with something a little trickier to get off?

You can, and you can get locking ram mounts as well, but one of the advantages of the double take mirror, in particular for dirt biking, is you can fold them out of the way when on trails and then back when on the road... which would become more of a pain in the arse if they were locked.

For me it isn't an issue because the only time I am away from my bike is when paying for gas (a couple minutes at most) or when eating, in which case I try to choose a patio or window seat so I can see if someone is about to mess with my bike. If I over-night somewhere with the DRZ, then I'd just take the mirrors off for the night.

In Chasem's case, replacing the screws with, say, a hex bolt may work. And when prepping for a ride where there is dirt involved, switch them out for the thumb screws.
I too, worry of getting the ram mount stolen, but the part that actually mounts to the bike is the most expensive.

I have been commuting in downtown Toronto for years with Doubletake mirrors with no issues. You can use tools to honk on the thumbscrews so tightly that fingers alone won't move them.

Ironically, you almost have to go that tightly to keep them planted at illegal highway speeds.

Realistically OEM mirrors for most bikes cost more than those things and aren't much more trouble to take off. A simple Allen key or screw driver takes most off very quickly.

Heck, on a 650R you could steal the whole front lights, gauges, and fairing in about 5 minutes. Probably less with practice. Whole thing is only held to the bike with a couple of screws and comes off as one big assembly.

Our seats come off in two seconds without tools so I wouldn't be worried about these ugly doubletake mirrors. I just put them on my '15 690R with the 3" arms. Haven't hit the highway yet but I remain hopeful they'll be vibe free enough to be useful when I do. I am still running the stock handguards/bars/stem without vibration abating bar ends.

True, but I don't think people are walking around looking to steal KTM seats... Unless they want a torture device :lmao:

On the plus side I think I've fixed the uneasiness on the highway, raised the front suspension a little bit and it seems better at high speeds. Takes more effort to turn, but less chance of a high speed wobble-o-death.

There is another thread going on stating....Is "KTM Quality" a lie?....
Your experience with KTM, tells the whole story about their overstated product reliability & durability.

*shrug* I think I managed to fix the mirrors myself... freaking dealership. I'll admit the price of KTM's products is fairly high. I really wanted a high performance dual-sport... I got that, but I also made a few sacrifices along the way. My fiancee is getting pretty tired of my antics and wanted me to only have 1 motorcycle (aside from the GS1000.. heheh)

In hindsight I probably should have bought a WR250R (for trails) and a larger bike like a V-Strom 1000, etc.

I may be bitchy about my KTM at times, but I do love it. I just wish my seat was a lot more comfortable, and had more fuel range.

I tightened the plate behind the boot well beyond what I thought was possible. If they fall down now... there is simply no hope.

You got bite? Use JIS screwdriver.
