A few things: Mean is the sum of all values divided by the number sampled. Median is the value at which 50% of the population is both above and below the value. I think IQ is done on the assumption that it's normally distributed and centered at 100, with the bounds at 0 and 200. Hopefully by writing this, I show that I'm towards the better end (above-median) of the IQ histogram![]()
So just for fun and using 100 as the mean. If 80 % of the population were to fall between 90-110 evenly distributed, would you say people between 90-100% were below average? I've never taken a statistics course but i'm pretty sure the average, and an average sample are two different things. So 80% of the population would be considered average, and the rest outside of that range would be above or below.
Someone please answer this. Hearing people whine about how insurance is high for children on 11 second race bikes is clearly a less productive use of time
