Kijijij bike ads with reason for selling due to high insurance lol

Us old folks already addressed this problem by not starting on a sport bike. We worked our way up and earned our right to laugh at the young people with their ridiculous insurance rates.

It doesn't make a difference... I started on a 250 and my rate was still ridiculous and borderline unaffordable, especially for someone my age.

I grew up knowing my insurance wouldn't be great until I was older. Why should today's generation be privileged?

It's that "get off my lawn ya damn kids" attitude that gets us nowhere...

Just because you got screwed doesn't mean you should make sure everyone else does too.

Technically, half of everyone is below average... [ducks]

That couldn't possibly be more wrong. Depending what you define as average anything from a slight majority to 99% of your sample could qualify as average. Guess we know what side of average you fall on :P

LoL! so you've some how reasoned that his attitude is responsible for your high insurance rates? Just in case you hadn't figured it out, it's all the other damn kids who are the reason you're getting screwed. It's all statistical averages, how many people crash that bike in that age group, and there has been an endless supply of half wits on powerful bikes for long enough to put insurance through the roof.

I'd actually be curious to get a quote on something like an HP2 sport vs a gsxr 600. Bet the bmw comes in at a way lower insurance rate because the people who ride them, for the most part, dont crash them. And when they do they're wearing gear.....

now im not 16 so the rates wernt that big of a swing, but when i got my cbr i was getting quotes on a 07 and 08 but picked up a 09. the 09 is $20 a month more. fair enough.

when i was younger i was getting quotes on everything i came across before i bought it, same with cars..purchase price isnt what it costs to keep it legal and running.. i guess ive always understood you cant dump your only 5 grand into buying the bike then expect to have fuel, insurance and gear for free.

ive seen a few where a 18 yr old bought a 600 and then sold it to get a 125 or 250cc.

Actually when I was young we didn't get screwed. My insurance is higher now (relatively speaking) than when I was 16-21. My first bike was an interceptor 500 and I paid a sky high 400 a year to insure it. It's todays generation you can blame for ****** insurance premiums. The more the 'bro's' keep f*****g around, the worse it gets.

My bike insurance went up $200 a year, from $460 to $674, I'm 40 with clean record, no tickets and no claims, apparently my insurance company (Jevco) sold themselves like a hooker to Intact Insurance. they in turn upped my policy. My bike is a 750cc sport tourer from 2003. If my insurance passes $700 in the future I will not ride anymore, it's ridiculous to pay $700 for insurance when I only ride 3-4 months a year.

I can't believe our stupid and useless government allows a corporation to charge us for winter months we do not ride.

I will say part of the contribution to that is the people who jump right out there for a jan ride because we get a day or two of nice weather. Back in the day being able to take insurance off for the winter was nice but again, enough people screwed that up.

They don't really charge you for winter months, you're basically just paying just for fire/theft for the winter.

Judges awarding massive settlements for minor injuries and fraud are almost entirely to blame for the state of insurance rates. Too bad tort law reform will never be an election issue.

Why don't you shop around for a new provider with a lower rate?

sigh... this entire thread is basically assumptions and bashing the younger generation. Too bad I fall into that category.
Used the exact same reason on my kijiji ad because it was the honest truth. Mind you I didnt jump into a 600 SS, I bought an older ex500 and I'm 22.
Am I the unlucky, mature 1%? :(

This thread took off now didnt it?? lol. The insurance is ridiculous here in ontario and I do feel bad for some of the younger riders, not all because I feel most just arent ready to start on an ss, but i did and loved it and was responsible and i believe it made me a better rider. Granted though, I bought a old cbr 600 which is probably the equivalent to a newer 500 now, but still its all about the mentality if the rider.

So the isurance companies and ontario government has taken upon themselves to just determine who can ride what bikes. Even myself being 34, and with td, i am getting quoted 1400 per year on a 1000 with basic, which to most may not seem like alot, but that is not cheap just for a toy.
So now im thinking about just riding a 600 this year for the purpose of saving on insurance.

My view is similar to Pegassus and Ajaxguy. Its overpriced for us "older" guys. I also see it as a lot of $ for a toy. Politics & supply / demand are not on our side. Seems the Canadian theme in general when it comes to $. That said, its a lot of fun. Hoping to ride more this year.

A lot of below average folks out there...

This.

I'm selling my bike to get one with lower insurance but I definitely looked into it before I bought it (as I do with all my vehicles). Just decided I should be spending that money elsewhere. I also have 3 vehicles (sometimes more) in Toronto so the costs are very high (not just for insurance but also for things like parking) and should be saving some money to purchase something in the inflated housing market.

If anyone sees one of these bikes going for cheap let me know! I've been helping my buddy search for a bike but I'm not actually seeing a lot of good deals out there. The few I've seen are either sold or the sellers are unresponsive.

I am not saying that they are cheaper and they may be saying this as a reason because they just bought the bike to flip. For example there was an r6 in barrie, i was gonna go see it but slacked on it, then i text the guy back and said he sold it. Sure enough the ad is up 2 days later from a different guy in barrie and he admitted he just bought it, but ins was too high, but was selling it for $1000 more then what he paid.

probably just trying to make up the extra cost for the taxes he paid

A few things:

Mean is the sum of all values divided by the number sampled. Median is the value at which 50% of the population is both above and below the value.

I think IQ is done on the assumption that it's normally distributed and centered at 100, with the bounds at 0 and 200.

Hopefully by writing this, I show that I'm towards the better end (above-median) of the IQ histogram ;)

I chose my first bike based on insurance and I think anyone intelligent would. So really, no pity from me if you're young, in a high bracket, and buy a rocket - you just haven't done your homework.

Looking at this the same way as cars, these same guys would probably find insurance ridiculous on a Viper as well. Maybe because a used sportbike is $4-5k vs. $40k+ for a fast car, they figure it would be cheaper?

I feel worse for guys below 25 who would like to ride, but can't afford insurance on anything - even with a good record. That said, for whatever reason, I take fewer risks driving, skiing, mountain biking than I did when I was younger. It's subjective and people grow up at different rates (or not at all), but I could see why my insurance is lower now than at 21.

Insurance is based on rates, claims, injuries, etc. Not to say it's profitless, but there's reasons why 21-year-olds with no riding experience can't insure Hayabusas. Medical fees, potential disability, and tort liability are huge cost driving factors.
