I have come across numerous ads in the past week or so and its its alot of younger guys forced to sell because they cant get insurance for the bike they just bought.
Literally its guys without licenses or just m1's buying sportbikes and then calling for insurance only to realize they wont insure them or its in the 10 grand per year range.

i know they are younger, but wouldnt that be the first thing to do?? nuts!

A lot of below average folks out there...

great time to be buying a bike.

If it's any indication of what the newer generation is like (yes, they're technologically inclined, but they don't have common sense) then it's going to be a feeding frenzy later on.

yep, figured that out ages back.. say if you regarded 5% of the population as being Thick, 5% of Ontarios population of 13.5million (2012) would be 675,000 thicko's. So a high chance of encountering them.

I'd thought it was more of a sales tactic from the seller... or possibly a 'curb sider'.. saying

'oh yeah, insurance is way more than what I can afford and need to sell...' and when you go check out the bike, it would be a 40 year old guy showing you the bike and its not his name on the ownership. 'Oh yeah.. its my son... well, he's not here.... oh oh oh oh...hmmm, yeah, the ownership has a different last name.. well, actually, its my step son'

Hoping you would overlook other potential issues with the bike. Other similar BS along the line are.. 'Just had a baby... wife force me to sell'... 'health reason, can't ride anymore'...'Bought a new bike... need to sell by TODAY'

Usually the red flag is if the ownership is not even in the seller's name or they own it for only a few weeks or days.

I firmly believe this scheme:

3% are bordering on mental retardation, 10% are Darwin Award candidates on a regular basis, 12% lack common sense, 15% have common sense but are ********, 40% are average everyday people that have their ups and downs, 10% are above average, 5% are well adjusted, smart people, 3% are too smart for their own good, 2% are near-perfect human specimens.

This is good as it weeds out the idiots from hitting our roads.

Unfortunately it's simply making it inaccessible to most in general. Since when was motorcycling a pastime of the wealthy?

There have been a couple posts about people getting blindsided by the *huge* insurance hikes just this past month. They simply can't afford it at the new rates, and it's unfortunate. How can anyone sympathize with these rates? It's literally a full order of magnitude *or more* than equivalent coverage in various places in the states.

Even people that have a "reasonable" $800/year rate, those same people would be paying more along the lines of $100 for the same coverage down south. Disgraceful.

It's not a wealthist policy, if anything it is ageist but then again if you want it to get back to reasonable amounts either the licensing regulations need to change or young people need to stop having accidents and getting their bikes robbed.

ITT: Old people who ride sport bikes not addressing the real problem of Ontario's insane insurance, while instead laughing at young people who want sport bikes but didn't think it would be completely unaffordable.

While I agree with you that insurance here at best is a sick joke where the companies legally are allowed to screw you... young people shouldn't anything less than sky high insurance. Car, bike etc. why does it surprise most of them? I think the answer relates to what paul said about below average folks. In this day and age it seems for most that if the smartphone or tablet can't think of it for them they won't do it themselves.

Us old folks already addressed this problem by not starting on a sport bike. We worked our way up and earned our right to laugh at the young people with their ridiculous insurance rates.

That's worded better. This is what I meant. I grew up knowing my insurance wouldn't be great until I was older. Why should today's generation be privileged?

No need to address, everyone knows the insurance prob in Ontario, the government is allowing the price gauging so there's really nothing we can do about it. Maybe the oldies didn't start with sportsbikes. There's cheaper alternative than just riding 600cc+ sportbikes you know. We've all paid are dues, some still paying for it but like they say you gotta pay to play.
