Kawasaki green - powder coat or paint?

Hey guys,

I'd like to get my wheel colors changed from purple to green. I'd like to go powder coating but all the places I've called said it would be a 'custom' color and I'd have to order a whole bag of color just to do my wheels (and no, they don't give me the bag afterwards even thou I paid for all of it).

Does anyone know where I can get my rims painted Kawasaki green for a reasonable price? If not, where can I go to get my rims painted conventially? Preferably someone who has worked with bike rims before.

I had to special order my fluo Orange powder for mine. Same problem. I think Tuff Powdercoating in woodstock has a good selection of colours on hand.

P.coat is a lot more durable than paint.

Tuff powder coating has a sorta of John Deere green in stock that can work. Did a set of kawi wheels on a racebike with it once

I have Kawi green powder in stock, I have about enough left to do a set of rims, but depending on what year your bike is it might not be a 100% match. As Kasasaki changes the shade of their green every few years....
Here is an 04 that I did a long time ago

I just did a vise, with a clear coat...The clear makes it more glossy and have more depth to the color...

Even if I had to order more powder, enough to do a set of rims would only cost $20-40 with shipping....

That looks like the same "John Deere" powder. It's pretty damn close

Its actually Kawasaki green matching powder, that is how I order it, and what it says on the color tags on the bags when I get them "Kawasaki Green".....Kawasaki green is closer to a lime green, John Deere is a much darker green...The company I buy my powder from has both, and they are 2 different colors...

Yeah it does look a little darker. But it wasn't the actual John Deere green, I just called it that

Yeah that isn't JD green, most powder coat shops lime green is a fairly close match. Especially on a bike like yours that doesn't have any OEM green painted parts on it...I need the actual Kawi green match for bikes where there are OEM Kawi green parts on it, especially when parts are close or touching...Like for set of wheels when the front fender is also Kawi green..

Here is an example of how close my Kawi green is to an OEM green Kawasaki ZX6R front fender....That is one stage, when I add a clear top coat its an even closer match IMO

And for a comparison JD green in the mix

Kawasaki green changes frequently from one year to the next. Just a FYI.

The wheels are for a 96 ZX7RR. The shade on 96RR seems pretty close to a friends 03 636 so I might be okay for shade.

I got your PM Johnny, let see if we can work something out. I am also in Mississauga.

The problem with ordering powder is that no powder coater will use stuff that they don't get themselves. They don't trust the quality of the powder I hand them I guess, and why should they?

Generally your right, it took me a while to build a relationship with my coater before he would use powder that I supply him for colors he does not carry....The thing about coaters is they usually buy from big suppliers only, and can only order a complete box that is 20-50lbs for $100 or more, when all you need for rims is around 1lb or less. Even when I supply my powder its my *** on the line, if the parts don't turn out right I have to pay for it anyways, and also to strip them and again for re-coating. If it was his powder he would have to re do them for free...I have been working with my powder coat company for about 6 years now, so he will do anything I ask him too as long as I supply the powder and prep everything. He actually prefers it this way, as I have gotten really good at preping motorcycle parts properly..As I know how and what needs too be masked off or plugged so it doesnt get coated...
