Just sold, Gotta buy. Question MTO

Hello all. I just sold my bike and am looking to buy. I have a question about when I transfer the new bike into my name. Do I have to present the safety at that time or am I able to produce it within a certain number of days. I know I have 6 days to register the bike but I can't remember if I can buy the bike - insure it, register and plate it and then Bring it for a safety.

Assuming nothing has changed with this in the last few years, you can get a temp sticker for 10 (?) days. You need to prove having insurance and pay the taxes on the bike at the MTO, then they issue a temp sticker so you can ride to get your safety done etc.

Ownership can change for sure without a safety - I think you can get insurance for theft at this point too. I THINK.

Easier if you have a safety when you transfer registration but you can get it after

This is how it's done, but I believe the temp sticker is only good for 7 days and you can have a maximum of 2. I believe they don't have to be two consecutive periods of 7 days. You can have a gap in between.

So, get insurance, go to MTO, provide proof of insurance and transfer ownership. Buy UVIP, plate, temp sticker and pay taxes. Get bike safetied. Bring safety cert to MTO. Get normal sticker.

A bike is branded unfit only if the ownership is transferred without proof of insurance (and no plate or sticker will be issued). In that case, you can't get a temporary sticker. You have to get it safetied before you can get the bike plated and stickered.

You can just stick your old plate on the bike, as long as the vehicle it was attached to is sold. Obviously need insurance too. You then have 6 days to get it safetied, then go to the ministry and change everything over. Seller is required to provide UVIP, although they never do. Section 11 (3) and (4) HTA

Make sure you carry bill of sale and the ownership is dated so you can prove its within 6 days if you get stopped. After the 6 days you'll be in a mess if you get stopped as nothing will match. The idea is that you can buy a vehicle, put your old plates on it, and drive it to the MTO to get everything transferred over.

If you're not comfortable with that go the minstry and change bike over, pay taxes on it and get a 10 temp permit and new plates. You can get 2 within a year, don't have to be consecutive. Have to provide proof of insurance, however my last bike they wouldn't give me insurance until I provided them a copy of the ownership with bike in my name.
