I've got 2 (maybe 3) days. Need a motocamping ride/destination.

I'm out of imagination. I have a few lieu days at work that I need to use up and I think I'd like to head out on 1 more motocamping adventure somewhere.

Probably solo as I'll be looking at weekdays, but who knows. Perhaps as early as this coming Thursday/Friday/Saturday or maybe next Tuesday/Wednesday.

Thinking 400-600km each way....less than I would usualy ride for a good day ride (especially solo), but this time of year with the cooler temps that's fine.

Will be tenting. I have good cold weather gear. Will pack food and my Biolite - am fully self sufficient.

Ideas?

Go up and down the finger lakes? Maybe over to the Adirondacks? I like both those places!

Good ideas, but have been to both the finger lakes already this year (for anyone who hasn't been, the Gorge through Watkins Glen is off the charts amazing, just be prepared for 2.5 million stairs), and also did the Adirondacks as well a few weeks back.

Not against going back to either, but I guess I was thinking of something that didn't start with 200-300km of slab to get to and from, so I guess I should have specified I was thinking northwest, north, or northeast

Also, a campground destination isn't really needed - I can do crown land or some other creative option.

Avoiding slab and exploring somewhere interesting is a tough combination. I would be tempted to explore the eastern townships or north of Montreal as I havent done either but going without slab is slow.

How about the Laurentians.
If you are clever about the timing you might get a relaxing tailwind both ways.

Hmmmmm. I have been before, but the last time was with a group so I didn’t really have time to do a super lengthy explore. That could be interesting, and I was actually looking at perhaps a Algonquin/Calabogie loop of some sort, so it’s in the right vicinity as well.

Never fails when I plan a trip the forecast goes to **** lol.

The cool weather I don’t mind. Cool weather with no sun and chance of showers, different story.
 
Generally you can get a clear 2-3 day window of weather watching the national weather radar and time your ride around whatever is further west. Cold and clear is fine ( and might be with that NW wind ), cold and wet .....nah.

That's a great suggestion.

You may have to go slightly more than 600 kms one way, but the roads around Mt Tremblant are twisty and scenic. Basically, you can't go wrong with any 3xx road. 327 north of Lachute to Tremblant is a popular choice (323 is also a good alternative) and then you can take 329 back down.

Haven't been there in a while, so pavement quality might be variable, because, you know... Quebec...
 
That happened to us but we cut west from Eastern NY State and had a super trip ....getting through the front not so much fun but then most excellent fun in Pennsylvania. We had been heading to Vermont and turned 180 degrees.
Still recall that decision many years later.
I think we had just crossed the bridge at 1000 Islands and about to go east, checked the radar and headed south and west right quick. Picked up 6 which is a nice road tho not technical.

Mind the turkeys in Quebec....one almost took my head off. :eek:
Same trip saw an otter cross the road in front of me.

Sounds like my intended trip down to VA/WV a month or so back that turned into the NY/ME/VT crawl instead.

Rode back from Ganonoque in a windstorm like that 5 or 6 years ago. The 401 didn't seem safe on 2 heels so we came across the lakeshore and it was worse yet - I literally almost got blown off the road a few times.

Feelers touched on a straight road in a crosswind on the hurricane trip. Scared the crap out of me and a very strange feeling to be that far over and going straight (and then gust dies and you are rocketing towards shoulder).

recall reading and alaska trip blog and rider was in the at position on the haul road ...might have been Oomas. No more lean available and the wind still pushing him into the edge.

A northwest wind in a high pressure zone on a bike with big frontage like the Burgman 650 feels like you've entered water. Very dense air.
I actually turned back one day on a ride as was certain something was up with bike. Nope, just a heavy steady wind circa 80kph + coming straight on - felt weird.

Surprised the CB300F handles the wind well enough but anything forecast above 30 knts I stay home.
I plan my rides around this site.....taking wind into account.
