It's about time, MTO

Speaking of the MTO, I went to go pay the taxes on my Bike and get a sticker (is it 13 percent now instead of the used to be 7 on private sale? - Thank you McGuinty Government) and the lady at the counter said the systems were down province wide so they weren't able to help anyone who needed any MTO related service. Great to see our tax dollars hard at work!

This happens quite often. Considering that their computers are STILL using Windows XP and their server systems are likely Microsoft Windows 2000, I'd like a word with whoever is in charge of MTO and slap them until they hire someone who isn't retarded in netcom.

****ing gov is retarded when it comes to anything computer related and they never understand why UPGRADING is worth the money; exploits don't just disappear.

I remember trying to book/pay for driving test online. After trying 3 times, unsuccessfully, I called them and was told that their site only work on a Windows version of Internet Explorer 6. Where else but government would this be acceptable?

The incompetence there is ridiculous, not to mention the attitude of arrogance and entitlement that permeates among the staff. Not only did they have their entire staff effectively sitting there on the taxpayers dime doing nothing because the systems were down. I asked the lady if there was a number I could call to find out if the systems were back up before I wasted another trip and she said gave me a number and then blatently said - "you likely wont get through on it though". Wtf?! So I'm going over there again today.

bah, give em a break man. if the computers were down at your work, wouldn't you be chilling if everyone else was?

and regarding the coins/jelly beans: do people really do this? And what happens afterwards usually? Do they politely back off or do they ram the back of your bike?

I'd rather flip em the bird, drop a gear down and say fack off while I speed away.

The problem w/ the gov is that they have no sense of urgency to "protect their data". IE6 has **** tons of exploits and so do old versions of 2000 and XP (hell, even current versions, use 7 and Server 2008).

Mark my words: if somebody actually hates MTO or the Canadian gov enough and start breaking into their ****, they WILL upgrade their systems. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the ping of death worked on their systems.

so if you've got all the answers, why don't you put in a tender for the contracts and upgrade it?
Looks to me you've figured it all out.

...you do realize security holes aren't necessarily a bad thing for someone that owns a motorcycle and knows how to exploit those security holes?

what they need to do is let us ride in the HOV lanes everywhere...

Yes, just like in America where it is a federal law to allow this. Also it is accepted in many other civilized, first-world nations. How can this be made possible?
