Is this a concern when buying this bike?

Too many monies for a bike with cosmetic damage.

Keep looking. You can find one in better shape for the same or less.

As for the km's. If there is verfiable service history or the bike looks to be well maintained I wouldnt worry about it at all. My 2004 Superbike (race bike) had 32,000km on it and it still ran like a raped ape on crystal meth and cocaine.

ahh i see thanks for the info.

im just curious now, how much would this bike be worth selling?

If the only thing wrong with it is the cosmetic damage, everything else in good condition and good working order, I'd say $2800-$3000. Scratches don't bother me that much. I'd look at that as an opportunity to get a cheap bike. It'll still ride and run the same as a bike that hasn't been dropped so who cares? Also in the event that YOU were to drop it.. meh.. big deal right? It wasn't mint in the first place.

That pipe looks like a piece of **** eBay $99 special too.

The problem is that every single guy and girl that is getting into riding wants that bike, so some kid out there will buy it, to me I wouldn't pay a penny more than 2800 with the drop and km, but I also would never buy a 250r, I would get a hyunsung 250, bigger rear tire, half the price and it looks better IMO

What is the service network like for Hyosung in the GTA? Just curious.

OP, if you want it offer under $2800.00. KBB has the bike listed at $2900.00 US in excellent condition. Add the higher value for bike in Canada, subtract the damage and start negotiating.

I currently own a 2009 250r and I think thats on the high side. Like others have said 3000 is probably a better number. 16,000 km is not that high but it depends what was done recently .. eg was the valve clearance check done recently, plugs, tires are most likely due to be changed. just as a comparison I was offered 2500 for my bike as a trade in , and I only had 10,000 kms on it at the time, and my bike was in mint condition ..no drops scratches etc. So even though people ususlly get more when selling the bike privately. I think 3,000 for that bike is the most I would pay. especially since you may be due for the above mentioned services which would probably cost around 500 dollars anyway.
good luck

Not sure about the service network LIFE but with a 2 year unlimited km warranty and a few places to bring it for repairs http://www.motorcyclecityinc.ca/page/display/pageId/6028/siteId/1000212 I would say I would feel really comfortable getting one, probably sell it before the 2 year warranty expires.

..and worse case scenario if everyone picked up and left next year (doubt it) I would take a ride to buffalo http://local.ultimatemotorcycling.com/Hyosung_Motorcycles_Buffalo_NY-p1576669-Buffalo_NY.html

That's nothing for a 250. I've got ~32000km on my 2010 and it runs just as good (if not better) than the day I brought it home. That pipe looks like the DanMoto exhaust which a few people on the ninjette.org forum have. From what I gather it's a cheap slip on, and is VERY loud. cost shipped for one of those is around $120-140. Most people don't realize you can get that kind of mileage out of these little bikes because most either trade them up within a season or wad them up and then go buy a 600 with the insurance money. The only things I'd ask about on that is if they've done the valve clearance check, and if they shimmed the needles or put in a jet kit for that exhaust. The valve service is supposed to be done every 12k, as the valve lash tends to get tight. If they haven't done it, it's probably a $150-200 service at a dealer, just make damn sure they do it. I took mine to the dealer for my first one, and they didn't do a damn thing to it (but were still happy to charge me), so I'm doing it myself this time with the help of a fellow GATM'er.

^^ agreed with kamikaze. I don't understand this whole mentality on bikes with low km's. I also own a 250, and last season I put on 24,000 (all recreation, no commuting). As long as it's properly maintained, it's ok. Scratch my head sometimes seeing people posting one with with less than 1,000 km ... that's like a trip to Pennsylvannia and back on a good summer day.

Hey kamikaze, are you saying that you haven't had the valve clearance checked yet? Since you don't believe the dealer actually did it. I currently have approx. 12,500 km's and my bike runs perfectly no noticeable change in engine noise which is usually the first sign that the valve clearance should be checked. Although the manual recommends checking it at 12,500 km's, I'm probably going to wait until 20,000 km before I schedule my first check. Unless I start noticing changes in the engine noise or performance of the bike.

So my question is assuming you didnt get the first check done properly, have you actually gone 32,000 kms without a valve clearance check ?

thanks

I think you're reading too much into what the OP is asking. I think it's more that the seller emphasized that all of the KM's are Highway, which irked the OP and made him question the validity of the ad. Personally I think putting "ALL HIGHWAY!" in any vehicle posting is stupid considering everyone knows it's a lie. But, that's for another topic.

As far as I can tell, the dealer never even turned a wrench on my bike when I took it, so essentially yes. It's got 32,000km without a proper check. I took mine in at around 15,000km. All the valves at this point are very very tight, except for one intake valve. it really pisses me off that I spent good money for them to do something and they didn't do it, and it could have resulted in major damage to the engine. It still had the factory silicone on the valve cover in addition to the rubber gasket, so that's why I'm coming to that conclusion. Anyway, I'm not here to derail this thread with my horror story. I wouldn't recommend skipping this check, it's a high revving engine that practically lives above 8k RPM. If you take it into the dealer, I'd really make sure they do it by marking a bolt or something. Seems like a cash grab to just listen to it, and deem it ok without actually tearing it apart. Not sure that I'd push it to 20k either, but 15k seemed like a reasonable compromise.

How much would a shop typically charge for this check/adjustment? I mean one that would actually do it :P

this is why people stay away from bikes with more than 10000km, and why they drop in value so much.........people don't follow the maintenance schedule and those that say they do are lying half the time. I can only assume a person that doesn't get the valves checked doesn't check the steering head bearings, gets the fork oil changed etc etc.
