Is there anyway to mix motorcycles and software to make a livelihood?

Um, sorry but you cannot write good software unless you're passionate about it. Money alone will not fuel the all night motivation and constant self learning that is required in the field. Even in mundane business apps the small things can give you satisfaction such as a good algorithm, responsive UI, or just elegant/maintainable code. Every good developer I know have massive passion and usually work on their own projects outside of work (but never have time for them). You'll need a lot of passion to pull off a good app, or maybe I misread you're intentions and you're trying to find a project to get excited about?

Software doesn't have to be "good" to be successful. It just has to work, and do something that nobody else is doing. And anyway, why are you assuming the worst about the OP's abilities to write software?

By definition if it works well then it's good software lol I agree that it doesn't have to have a lot of features and pretty graphics to be good, just a well written core idea and intuitive enough to use. I'm doubtful because he stated just three years experience, and writing map algorithms or GPS telemetry apps such as Aprilias or Pirellis is f'ing difficult, requiring multiple developers with different disciplines, not to mention the engineering aspect of the hardware and the interfacing.

Don't get me wrong, I also love the idea of this kind of software, just don't underestimate the effort involved, it's definitely not something you can just dabble in and expect to pull off. For the record I've spent over a decade writing manufacturing software, there's a good chance my software helped build the car you're driving. OP can message me if he has questions.

jcbarnar, I don't know if it was your intention to come off as condenscending or not but I've noticed that trait among some programmers.

It is possible to do things well without being passionate about it if you are disciplined enough.

OP - are you self employed.??

I ride lots - 8-9 months in Canada and 3 months in Australia and can work where ever there is an internet connection.

Sometimes keeping passion and profession separate is a good thing.
