is it worth getting an adventure bike for ontario roads?

yeah I almost forgot about the 800xc. I was only considering a speed if I decide I don't want to check out the fire roads and such. I hear it's not as torquey as the beamer, though.

I think I would like a ktm, but I am scared of their maintenance compared to bmw :)

Some of the KTM maintainance is weird, and time consuming. Dry sump motors make oil changes twice as long as most bikes. However, KTM parts are cheap cheap compared to any other brand of bike I have owned.

KTM mirror= $34 (wasn't in stock at Apex but they had it from Ohio in one day)
Honda mirror= $88 and took 10 days to arrive
CBR 600 front rim = $598 and took a week
KTM front rim (Brambo)= $487 and took a week

...try pricing a clutch lever for a BMW F800 GS...

hehe... the number of times I've outrun supersports in the twisties with a fully loaded GS is fun - they corner amazingly well.

That said, I've been spanked by two different goldwings riding through the Appalachians... no way I could keep up even with the one that had a passenger on the back.

No matter how good of a rider I think I am, it's humbling being schooled by retirees on land barges...

I've seen harley's that go fast in corners (always tricked out sportsters) but never had the pleasure to run with one.

It really comes down to the rider at the end of the day. Take that same rider blowing past you on a goldwing and see how much better he would probably do on a SS (when used to it).

Its incredible how big bikes actually handle. My GSA is a pig and heavy with a full tank, but once moving, it feels like nothing.
