Iphone mount vs. GPS mount

Hey everyone, just looking for some advice/insight. I have an iPhone 4 & am thinking about either picking up a GPS unit for my bike or mounting my iPhone in a weatherproof case. I'm not really interested in using a tank bag becuase I find them bulky and ugly. Does anyone ride with a weatherproof arm band type holder for their cell? How about a mounted unit? I know I can probably get an arm band designed for runners. Do you use a bluetooth device with it? I'd just like to be able to see my phone while driving so I can use it as a gps. If there are other alternatives, I'd welcome them as well! Thanks in advance.

ive got a ram mount for my iphone.

My only complaint is its not in a waterpoof case.. so when rain gear comes out, iphone goes away, which sucks.

Not a big deal most of the time, but bad when on a trip.

I only use the phone for gps/music and the occasional g-meter/accelerometer/0-60 test.

If I had an extra 4-500 available id get a garmin nuvi.

If you can spare $700 I recommend the Garmin Zumo 660. 4 inch screen, easy and simple to use, plays MP3s, has Bluetooth, etc. And it's designed for motorcycles so it's rain and bug proof. Obviously you can use your gloves with it; iPhone can't. You can even answer and make calls with it connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth in your pocket.

I use a garmin nuvi 295w, though not advertised as waterproof it has not died even under heavy constant rainfall. Only worry now on the new bike is how to make a 100% waterproof power supply that does not have to be inside my tank bag :(

all my gloves work fine with the iphone.

Aquabox from RAM mounts work well. Bulky but totally waterproof plus the cover is silicon so you can still use some touch screens. My GPS has been in one for two seasons with no problems. As for waterproof power supply get a spring capped 12v weatherproof adapter from Crappy Tire and wire it in with a fuse to the battery. Again, I've been using the aquabox and this set up for two seasons no problems.

Sometimes the vibrations on a bike can destroy electronics. Save your iPhone and buy yourself a cheap GPS, mount it to your bike with a RAM mount and put a plastic sandwich bag over it if it rains. Your total cost is likely to be a lot less than $125 for the whole setup. That is a lot less $$ than possibly destroying your very expensive iPhone. In addition, the shiny face of the iPhone makes is difficult to see in bright light.

Just checked Futureshop website... here is a 4.3" tomtom refurb for $80 http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/prod...spx?path=eaa7138803356917ef8c8bf1bc17e05een02
