Asking for a friend....

Does anyone one know of any insurance company that will provide a really short term policy? Like for a week.

My neighbor is looking for this and was told by someone that there are companies that will do it but he cannot remember who or how.

What's the use case here?

IIRC, some insurance companies will cover a newly purchased vehicle for 14 days if you already have an existing policy.

Does this apply here?

He wants to test out his bike after putting it back together.

He bought a KTM Supermoto ???? couple years ago in a more-or-less assembled state but needed some final assembly of parts. It came with 2 engines. Sort of like a project bike.
He has finally got it all back together and running but he would really like to test it out on the road before committing to keeping it or most likely selling it.

If he tries to do it with a normal policy make sure he asks about/understands minimum retained premium. I would be shocked if he can find this affordably. Lots of effort to spin up a policy and they want to be paid for that.

How about a track day? Probably cheaper and definitely more fun.

A ‘Newly acquired vehicle’ can be given a 14 day grace period, which is then back-dated and charged for. However, in this case the owner has owned the bike for several years, so it doesn’t apply. It’s also subject to several conditions such as ALL owned vehicles must be insured on the same policy and you are only eligible for coverage that is applied to all vehicles you own.
In this case, as mentioned in another post, it’s possible but will be cost prohibitive to do this on the road. Private property with consent is likely your answer here.

The only work around is that if they already have an active moto policy. Then it’s just a matter of add/remove a vehicle from an ongoing and active policy.

Not sure if this applies in your situation, but usually short rate cancellation penalties (for cancelling before the year is over) will not apply if you have an existing policy. That is to say - if you already have a motorcycle policy, you can simply add the new bike, and remove it whenever you'd like - without a penalty fee. The short rate fee is for cancelling the policy as a whole, not just simply adding/removing one vehicle.
