Indian motorcycles sold

Sad days are ahead imo for that brand. I give them a few years before bankruptcy. Honestly with the way the toy market is these days I'm happy I've downsized part of my garage over the past year as buying anything new is a risk that the brand may not be here in a few years.
How much longer will Polaris and Skidoo continue to make snowmobiles?

It must really suck for the guys that sold their orphaned Victories to buy an Indian!

Most likely to sell the name to a Asian company who will build 100cc bikes

Who cares?

Polaris is a public company, their goal is making money. Indian. While an iconic brand, is a bit player in a competitive market.

They lost me when they cancelled the FTR.

I hope a private company can make a go of a niche yet iconic brand.

Is a sale to private equity ever a good thing? Loot and pillage, sell off all assets and bankrupt the shell.
Probably not, i suspect its not worth more parted out.

My guess it streamline operations, launch a cool bike then take it public as the cashout

I agree the bike attracted different buyers to the brand but it's hard to keep making the bike in this market if no ones buying it.
I thought it was a beauty and would be fun but I don't really have use/time for one and therefor didn't buy one either. Lot's of us loved the bike but never gave money for it so it's gone.

Typical story. Press and riders rave about it. Nobody buys it.

Anyone remember the MT-01?

Yamaha spent a lot of money bringing it to Canada. Huge splash in the moto-mags and the forums were abuzz about it.

Never saw one on the road...

Sometimes.

If you look up "private equity motorcycle company" in the dictionary, I bet it will have a picture of MV Agusta next to it.

Passed around not for its assets, but for its brand name recognition. Low units sold but considered a jewel in the crown due to its halo status. I don't think any suiter ever bought MV for its assets, but always attempted to rebuild it into a turn-around story.

Bought and sold more times than even Husqvarna...

Sad news, but not surprised.
Like other "American" brands the market is shrinking.

In some cases it's a reality check when a private company with a solid reputation gets bought out and slashing occurs before the tarnish appears on the reputation. Maytag could be an example.

Can you blame the original fair-minded owner when after a lifetime of diligence, he gets offered a major payout?

In some cases, money is borrowed based on the reputation and then the reputation is allowed to slide. The borrowed money is distributed to the shareholders before the tarnish appears. Assets are sold off and the lender has to try to get their money back out of empty coffers.

I'm hearing talk of private equity taking over the veterinarian business. Since the industry isn't price regulated, rates have been erratic for ages and that could change but not in a good way. Keeping Fido or Fluffy alive might get very costly.

PE is also investigating heavily in dental practices as well.

Wait until they get a strong position and then you'll see rates jacked up substantially.

I know someone whose dentist retired after many years and the practice was sold off to a dental group who pushed cosmetic dentistry very aggressively. Cleaning, whitening, veneers, crowns, implants etc......expensive stuff. Friend had good healthy teeth and gums, but didn't go for the "extras" recommended as he was comfortable with how he looked. A year goes by and he gets a letter in the mail. The practice is reviewing clients and resources yada yada yada and he is advised that they believe he would be more comfortable with another dentist vs the direction the practice is now going. In other words you're fired as a client. Our time is better spent treating patients who opt into and support our care plan.
