I'm back

Well, I'm not back geographically speaking, but I am back in the bike scene after a long absence. I thought a few long timers here may remember me. I've been lurking here from time to time for years.

And it literally has been years. My site experience and post count on the forum went into archive hell. I now look like a newbie.

Back in the day I OD'd on bikes and tracks and racing, and also in addition to selling the bikes for money to buy a house. I thought about getting a bike again off and on over the years but I didn't miss it, there was no real pull for it. Then the weirdest thing happened. I woke up one morning in October with an intense desire to get a bike again. I don't remember any dreams causing this either. And I don't remember being hypnotized? :tongue10:

Though new litre bikes were tempting and I had the money, the roads where I live aren't in very good shape. Also I worry about how much more draconian the laws have gotten. I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and look for a few models of previous bikes I owned, a 2000 RC51 and 01 black/silver GSXR 1000. I found a few options and I decided to pursue them. Prices were nothing next to an S1000RR, which was a big bonus.

Visiting TO in Oct I set up and test drove a 05 SP2 RC51 for sale. I was hooked again. The rarity and character of the RC51 is great. The Vtwin engine and gear driven cam sounds are to die for. As for the RC51, I was only interested in an SP2.

I also had found a 04 Nicky Hayden RC51 drivable from where I lived, but had not visited yet. After the TO visit, I set up a trip to see the bike closer to me two days later. The 04 RC51 was neglected from storage and lack of riding, but very clean overall and only 17000 km. It was an original US bike imported. I picked it up at a great price. Managed to get a bit of riding in. I'm back. :):)

So now that I bought an older bike like what I used to own, does that mean I'm in mid-life crisis mode? lol.

I subsequently realized I need lots of new gear. Ordered a bunch as I found some great deals this time of year. Got some nice equipment for the bike too.

Insurance where I'm at is excellent. I can road insure for any number months, stop it and have storage insure for the rest of the time. My insurance will be around $600 a year comprehensive.

Time to update my sig from break mode.

Here are some pics. Enjoy.

Are you in Ontario? You have a good insurance rate
Yeah his rate is good. About half of mine on a bike that should be way cheaper. :/

I think the website doesn't post pics if you aren't logged in when viewing. Try logging in and refresh the thread.

I'm in SK. Gov't run insurance. So much better here it is crazy. Sk does not discriminate based on location, sex or age. All rates apply equally. A 17 year old would pay about $1100 per year for insurance on a new litre bike, including s1000r, f4, duc 1199r. ;)

Congrats!

I'm from those parts. Was lots of fun insuring my NX2000 at age 17, full coverage, for $730 annually, and not having tickets count against insurance.

It would be awesome to have the RC51 out there, but... I don't think there's a road course in the province, and the best you could do on the road would be 'sweepers'. Best bet would be Stratotech Park in Fort Saskatchewan?

On the other hand, if you want to find out exactly how fast your bike goes, you're in the exact right place.

Anyways, good luck and enjoy.

Your links are showing up as single pixels. Same goes for when you tried to embed them on the forum. Maybe try hosting the pictures on imgur or something similar? I'd love to see your pictures!

Yeah, use photobucket, imgur, etc. You can't link to the pics over on RC51 forums, because we'd have to be a member over there, and signed in, to see em :(

I just thought my browser was messed when I first came to this thread with no pics. Or that he was talking about his sig pic.

No tracks within 8+ hours of me. That will have to wait a while longer.

I hope all is well with you and that you are still out there.

Haven't ridden on the track in several years now, but I'm still there with a camera. Just published my third photobook on motorcycle racing in Ontario.
