I think I offended some Sellers.

I've seen worse than that ZX7 ... much, much worse. Problem is that a paint job like that adds no value at best, and can severely limit your audience or subtract value if it's so gaudy or tasteless (or poor quality) that any reasonable buyer would have to re-do it. That ZX7 is priced high by at least $1000 without even considering what the paint job does to it.

I'm constantly surprised at how few people do this.

All that custom crap has zero value at dealer trade-in or used sales. It makes much more sense to keep the stock parts, swap out the custom parts on resale, and eBay all the custom parts. All these people giving away stock pipes should look at the cost of stock pipes in the restoration market 20 years down the road. Scoop up all those pipes and store them, better than gold.

Plus, many customizers have NO CLUE what they are doing and have resulted in a bike that cannot be certified and was running much worse than stock.

True enough....

****, I threw mine out!

People who customize a bike and then get incensed when no one see its 'value' need to buy a vowel. The first thing that I think when I see a modded/repainted bike is, "I wonder how much damage was done when he dropped it?" The reason for wanting a stock pipe is obvious and also if the seller doesn't have it, then it leads right back into my first point. Then there's the simple point that you may be severely limiting the possible buyers to those who have the same taste as you. For example anyone who would consider buying my bike would fit a very narrow range; those who want the suspension of a racebike on something that has as much storage as a small car. I don't expect to find many like that.

A well tarted R1100S for the Beemer fans. Apparently all old farts and in their second childhood anyway so this fits right in.

So as I said before... If I was looking and saw that bike I wouldn't even give it more attention than the wtf look I'm giving that one. Why oh why would you bother going to look at it if it's not your thing? The whole point of this thread to me is funny. I wouldn't even go look at the same model of bike I own in a color that doesn't do it for me let alone someone's gawd awful creation like that :dontknow:

nothing like a clean unaltered OEM bike with no modifications done to it at all :)

I wish I had an SS to sell to you as I'm a stickler for OEM stuff as well !

When I sold my GSXR, all OEM parts went back onto it.
Nobody will pay you any extra for a modded bike, but you can resell those used parts for half of retail....so I recovered some more of my costs by selling exhaust, wave rotors, power commander, gel seat etc seperately.

This is true in many cases, but not all. When I bought my current bike, 90% of the mods are things that I would have done myself, so I didn't have an issue paying more for the bike than a comparable stock one. The seller could have made more by parting it out, but I'm sure it was less hassle selling it as one unit.

Same went for when I was selling my after getting the above. Could have made more money selling the mods separately, but figured my time and energy was worth more
