I guess some people are just gifted on two wheels...

and I get a laugh out of all the clowns who think riding a superbike doesn't require a certain degree of fitness, and that people competing in motorsports don't train as hard because its the machine doing all the work...

Who the **** is ignorant and stupid enough to think that?! There's a reason why you very rarely see obese people riding SS.

I don't think anyone that understands bike mechanics would be ignorant enough to say that, then again I might be wrong

Anyone who thinks there's no fitness involved in racing bikes is a tool. Even regular riding requires decent core strength to be positioned comfortably.

I wonder how technical the course is. Thats a face pace for dirt.

The Lake to lake course is about a 65 - 35 mix generally of hardpack double track / bike path to single track. This year would have been a bit different as the rain made some of the sections in Welland incrediably muddy. The course generally favours people with flat-out power. Alot of past winners have run semislicks on short-travel bikes.

Great riding if you have never done it, go from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario barely touching a road.

Interesting. I've done the Fanshawe Lake trail which is 24km and fairly flat but a mix of fast/slow singletrack. My last lap was 1h8m (not at race pace tho... but pretty hard). I haven't done a mtn bike race in ages!

If the weather is reasonable, its a great race to get back into it. The start is long enough that the main packs are pretty strung out by the time you hit single track. The trail riding itself is pretty straightforward, the rutted ATV sections in Welland typically catch a few pedals.

If you haven't had a chance to ride Niagara, try the Laura Secord summer series run by Liberty! Bicycles: http://www.libertybicycles.com/laurasecord/. Very low key, pretty short course and damn fun (cheap too). The trails down there are fantastic, I try to go down once a week from the Hammer.

I've seen tons of guys with bellies on supersports...

and how many people do you really think know about bike mechanics?

I'm doing a fitness and health promotion program and you'll be surprised by how many of the dumbass students think that 'motorsports' aren't real sports...because its all about the vehicle other than some of the 'cool tricks' people can do.

Come to think of it, I've never seen a documentary or commercial where they actually show what the rider is doing to physically prepare himself for the race its always the on track or in the shop prep...

Having a belly isn't obese. You can see obesity, no matter how hard you try to hide it!

I don't really think you see obese people doing much of anything...let alone riding a motorcycle.

All riders/race car drivers are athletes....for those who say different..

TRY A TRACK DAY.

At the end of that day while sipping on that beer, exhausted out of your mind, every part of your body aching 'cause you forgot to take ibuprofen before you started that day, just think ...

These pros still have 2 more days of racing left cause Friday is usually practice....
