I have never owned a Honda 4 cylinder and do love the sound and performance.

I covered a lot of the available areas in range of the KLR 650 this last year and there is no way I can take on the 1000 km days it would require for proper touring.

There is a good 600 with 82,000 km on for $2500 near where I stay in Aus.

Tempted and I have a rider there who can check it out.

That said don't want a sport bike but an intermediate sport tourer ( not worried about storage much ).

Thoughts on perhaps easing the sport seating position and what are thoughts on the bike itself.

I like intermediates and trust Honda motors. Price seems right.

seating does not look too aggressive.

F4 is an SS bike with pretty aggressive seating position, way more aggressive that sport tourers like 650R etc.

Honda: knee angle 70, forward lean 28.
CBR600RR: 73-39.
Kawi 650: 73 - 11.
Suzuki GS500F: 68-17
So F4 is way closer to SS.

Yeah I know but like the motor - and thought I might be able to modify it a bit with bar position.
I rode a RD400 with drop bars and bikini fairing for decades ( messed my hands ) so somewhat used to the aggressive position and the roads and great for an SS but not so good for rubber necking - Still I never minded sitting up looking around riding one handed.

As long I can keep my weight off my hands - sort of neutral with weight balance between seat thighs and hands.

Wonder if I can find one around to sit on.

I have F4i, so it has pretty much the same seating position and the same seat (04-06). Corbin seat helped for longer rides. Clip-on risers will definitely help if you'll get those.

I have owned two and they are great bikes! Both I sold with over 80,000km on them with no major hicups along the way. As for riding position never had an issue with it and logged on most weekends 1000km+. Only common issue is the CCT which can be repaired by using a manual one from companies like APE.

Missed it :(

Good deal as the rest in Aus ranged $3700 to $6k for same year and model.

There is no sales tax on used and the bikes come with remaining liability insurance so $2500 is a ride away price.

Wish we had that setup here for sales and insurance.

My KLR 650 insurance costs $240 there for a year and if I sell it the insurance goes with the bike.

Here even with a clean record and 43 years riding still costs $550 for a year.

Thanks for the insight.

Yeah that's the kind of mods I was thinking about - especially at that price point.
The advertise it in Oz as a sport tourer which it looks like seeing pics.

I will when I move there but need a bike for the 3 months I"m there each year.
The KLR was great for what I wanted this season -
