There's something funny with the side covers too - no vents like the 1969s and 1970s. Likely one off, hand made. They must have used an entire CB450 drum brake front end and maybe even a CB450 gas tank - it looks narrower than the later production models.
I`ve never seen that photo. Could be a 450 front end, I think that`s a 750 tank but there`s lots different than what made production. The oil filter housing, carbs and airbox, sprocket cover, side cover and badge, pipes, horn, taillight and obviously tires are all different. The entire engine looks a little "off" too. They must have used an entire CB450 drum brake front end and maybe even a CB450 gas tank - it looks narrower than the later production models.
Is that a bar or just the engine case? Could be the angle and light of the pic. There's something funny with the side covers too - no vents like the 1969s and 1970s. Likely one off, hand made.
And there appears to be some kind of metal bar running between the frame rails just above the oil filter. I wonder what that is about ?
Fair question - that pic was taken a long time ago.Is that a bar or just the engine case? Could be the angle and light of the pic.
It's one of 3 prototype pre-production machines built for the (1968 ?) Tokyo Motor Show. I've been told that none of them exist any more (likely crushed).I`ve never seen that photo. The story was that the 500GP bikes were often crushed at season end. Obviously some were awarded to riders, Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson, Roberts etc. Some slipped through the cracks,...had to have. Think someone, somewhere has one of those pre-CB 750`s? And you should check out the Avro Arrow I`ve got in boxes in the garage. It's one of 3 prototype pre-production machines built for the (1968 ?) If one of them escaped, it sold yesterday for $285 Grand at Mecum auction. If you`re out there lurking TK4 you likely know anyway. It's one of 3 prototype pre-production machines built for the (1968 ?) Tokyo Motor Show. I've been told that none of them exist any more (likely crushed).![]()
