Holy Insurance difference Batman !!

I actually recently stopped riding on the street because I couldn't justify the insurance costs. I was only getting out maybe 20 times per year, max, so insurance was costing me about $50 per ride!

If you look at your policy, you will see that most of the cost is in accident benefits. This makes some sense I guess - we have laws that require those benefits, so that you don't end up completely destitute as the result of a motorcycle accident. That's likely one of the bif differences between our policys and trhose in the US. When I lived in the US I had full coverage on my bike for $185 per year.

But still, insurance in Ontario is an out-and-out scam. Here's how I know: Cost to for me to insure one street bike - $1000. How much more do I get to pay if I want to own two? Another $1000. There is one licenced rider in my home (me). If someone would like to explain to me how *anyone* calculated that an insurance company's risk exactly doubles when one rider goes from owning one bike to two, I am all ears.

The truth is, the insurance industry doinks us anyway they are allowed to, and the provincial government doesn't care enough (since we are such a small voting block) to do anything about it. I have long said that I would vote for ANY provincial party that pledged to stand up for us on this - it has infuriated me for years.

+1 I'm with you brother

I hear you there. Why can't they just base my insurance on my most costly bike to insure? What am I going to do, ride them like water skis?

I lived state side for a few years and bought a new car when there. Think FULL coverage was about 1000$ on the thing. When moving back to Canada it was 2400$ for the car.

I also remember when talking to the insurance guy there he was trying every way possible to save me 10$. He wanted to drop the rental fee I paid there in case in a accident as he could get cheep rental cars.

different idea of what service is or should be. We recently fired our insurance broker, after many years with them and them always telling us that our premiums would be going up for this reason or that each time we spoke with them, we got fed up. When asked if everyone they shopped for us was quoting higher, they told us they don't shop unless directed to by the customer and they could do that at renewal next year if we would like....

Really!!! isn't your job to get your customers the best rates, not just the first time when you are trying to earn the business, but each year as you want to keep the business. We walked with out house, 2 cars and 2 bikes to another provider. Same coverage for what our our cars and house alone were costing. The broker didn't even try to compete, just told us to come in and sign the cancellation.

one of the worst displays of customer service I have witnessed

. Downunder our insurance is cheaper too. Ontario (Canada?) is one costly place to own/ride a motorcycle or car.

Yup $304 for liability insurance IN Queensland Aus on the KLR650 and the cool thing is its on the bike not the rider.
Versus $600 here.

No sales tax on used bikes either. Easy to have a couple of bikes in Aus
