I use one of these (55L Black Hole) and sinch it down on the back and secure it to the handles of my panniers. It is waterproof and comes with removable backpack straps if I need to walk any distance once I get to my destination. It is large enough for my small tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, stove and small pot set.
