Highway Entrances + Tar Snakes + Middle Of Lane

hehe ..worked....

the sign really surprised me.

those are not the problem ...some road surfaces have dozens snaking along and no way to avoid.

same everywhere - nother Gillies rider

Problem is that some of the tar snakes here have a gaping gap that need to be repaired. You know something is wrong when our tar snakes are being repaired with more tar snakes multiple times a year...

I commonly see tar snakes opening up to gaping potholes which would obviously suck mid-turn...

Yeah you got to watch whats in those gaps. I had a steering pin the size of a sharpie marker puncture a rear tire a few years ago...

I thought the ****** chain had come off with the noise the rear was making!

Drove into Toronto last night to grab a camera deal and could not beleive the depth and width of some of the elongated potholes on the 401.....serious issue if a front tire gets in one of those.
Guess the winter really opened some nasties.

Bikes with smaller wheels gota watch out for sure :)

Size of these, would not matter ...- maybe the 21" on the KLR front would take it in stride....most bikes would not.

These were 8-9" wide and down to the next layer of pavement.

I'm on 401 everyday actually going back and forth to Waterloo M-F these days.

Worst I saw were coming off the 403 ramp onto the 401 - top layer had delaminated so deep and jaggy.

There's a patch on the westbound 401 as you approach Scarborough that's all cracked and potholed for a distance on all lanes. It's pretty bad. And unlike Steeles ave which is a municipality "not my street problem" due to being the border, the 401 is province. DVP and Gardiner are City of Toronto.

It's gonna get much worse. As these "no taxes" rednecks get voted in, they are just ignoring road maintenance to make the books look good. It could be worse, Montreal is insane.

Montreal has been insane for 30 years now. Though I imagine it might be worse now due to the Charbonneau corruption inquiry (still ongoing and explosive) slowing things down. One municipality there had to do a referendum to ask their residents if they wanted to wait or go with one of the indicted corrupt companies to do the work sooner. What a choice.

Each bike and their tires handle road surfaces differently. Some tar snakes are soupy from the sun, some are sticky. Some are just fine. Others are slick in the rain or heat. Some roads have frost heaves or separation that can grab a front tire very easy. Same with paint and rail way tracks and steel bridges.

Sometimes it's actually better to carry some speed over these hazards rather than too slow.

When I am taking the on ramp I am always trying to stay away from the tar snakes / middle of the lane ( due to oil that has been collecting there )

For experienced motorcycles, how slippery are those things? Assuming that its not wet - can I be confident when taking the curve?

Thanks!

they make your bike squirm a bit. No biggie. Just ride it out, like any bump. React/flinch, and it may not go well.
