Help with my electrical system!

Hey guys. So my 88 fzr250 2kr (non-exup) fails to start after some distance of riding with the headlights fully on. It loses all its power and stalls out. Trying to start it after with no lights on whatsoever, and it sounds like there's no juice in the battery. After some time of not touching it whatsoever it starts up, sometimes after a push start and sometimes just on its own (regular starting procedure). I've done some research and pondering and I think it could either either one of the two, (or something totally unrelated and not listed)

1 - the bulb for the headlights is too strong and therefore zapping more power out of the battery then it can charge. Although this wouldn't make sense as it will start up after some time no problem.

2 the lights aren't properly grounded. Not sure how this would effect my battery as I'm not too big on electrical systems.

Appreciate any help. And just to knock off the obvious, it's nrelatively brand new battery (a month old) me it's fully charged when I first got it. Also did some diagnostics and I believe that the stator and regulator are in working condition although I don't know if I should trust the accuracy of my digital multimeter as it was the cheapest one I bought.

Fill in the blanks.

1. At-rest voltage across the battery terminals (engine off, key off): _______

2. Engine running (start it with booster cables if needed), 5000 - 6000 rpm in neutral, headlights on, voltage across the battery terminals: ______

3. Engine running, 5000 - 6000 rpm in neutral, headlights off (pull fuse if needed), voltage across the battery terminals: ______

Check the rectifier regulator. If your getting 14+ volts at 5000 rpm then it most likely needs replacing and prob the battery seeing it might be cooked.

^^ Do this with a reliable multimeter and tell us. This will check your stator and RR.

Try to jumpstart your bike with a car, car OFF. Connect neg to neg and pos to pos, start your bike. If it starts then you need a new battery. If it does not start then we need to look elsewhere.

Not a battery issue. It starts up fine. I have yet to get around to the tests, ill keep you guys updated, but I know for a fact the headlights play a factor as this issue comes around when the night time lights go on. I should mention that the light is a nice blue and not a dull yellow. Would the bulb possibly have anything to do with it?

Dual headlight? If this is anything like a FZR400 (and it probably is), it is designed for using two 35-watt bulbs which are similar to 55-watt H4 bulbs but not the same. You can make the H4 bulbs fit, but the electrical system is not up to the task. What sort of bulbs are in there?

No clue. Whatever the previous owner used. Anyways it's done for the season. I wanna work on her real nice and will be doing a complete breakdown. Clean her up real nice. Ill keep you guys updated in the bulbs, tests, etc.
