I'm hoping to book my M2 Exit in October when I have completed the mandatory 18 month waiting period. But I noticed today that my current plastic drivers license was issued a full month after I got that temporary paper M2. I don't have that original temporary paper M2 any longer. Can I still book my test for 18 months after the original date? The Ministry keeps records of this stuff, right?

To summarize...

Got paper M2 on April 9, 2012
Got plastic license on May 8, 2012
Want to book M test for week of October 12, 2013

Thanks for your help.

Its not about the date your license came in the mail. If you got your M2 on April 9, 2012..then they start counting the months from that date forward.

Thanks Ninja10.
Also, I'm getting this message when trying to book Brampton online:

  • The selected DriveTest Centre has no available appointments, or appointments have not been scheduled yet, for the allowable time window of your selected licence class.
Please select another Centre, or call (416) 325-8580 or 1-888-570-6110 for assistance, during regular business hours Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

I'm guessing it's too early to book for October?
I'll call tomorrow to clarify.

Give them a call during business hours and book it by phone, the online section was buggy for me too a few days ago and wouldnt let me select VP and lawrence for M2 exit so i just went in an booked it. Got the test on Aug 20th. It's always best to do things in person, maybe thats just me :P

It's 18 months from the time you got your M2. The plastic card is irrelevant - you got it when you handed in an Application for Ontario Driver Licence (AODL) that was signed by an examiner that said you passed the test. That would be the day they gave you the temporary (paper) copy. So you should be good to go 18 months from April 9, 2012.
I believe the objective was to make it a two year period from the time a novice rider first gets a permit to ride until they can get a full licence, with the ability to reduce it by taking a safety course. So if you got an M1, you would have that for a minimum of 2 months, then M2 and you can upgrade 22 months later. Total is 2 years. You can shave 4 months off by taking a safety course, so the minimum would still be 60 days on the M1, then 18 on the M2.
