It has been years (2002) since I bought a helmet, and so it's about time for something new.

Currently wearing an Arai Signet GT and looking for guidance on:
1) good comparables - lots of options today
2) who has got the best deals going

I just bought an Icon Variant Speedmetal (black) and I love it!
It's their top of the line street helmet ($400 bucks) and comes with both clear and dark-smoke shields, and a cleaning kit.
Not meant to do 200 clicks though...
But that's not a big problem these days.
 
If you're interested in safety ratings, check out sharp helmet (google these two words) and you can pull up a pretty decent list of current helmets tested to a pretty crazy method. You'd be surprised by some of the ratings on several of the "top" helmet brands. Both Shark and AGV seem to be consistently a 4-5 star helmet, regardless of the helmet model/price point.
