Heated Glove Liners - old gerbings safe?

I'm looking for heated glove liners to wear under my gauntlets. Gerbing looks good but it runs at $90 + tax. I found this site which sells the older model:

$35, but the heating wires are exposed...do you think this is discontinued because of some risk involved? Safe to order? Better alternatives? A good price range would probably be under $60

I did try the latex glove thing....didn't help much.

Says exposed "insulated" wires if that helps. I would be more concerned with the "all sales final" caveat if it turns out to be a piece of crap you're stuffed. I admit I have gone cheap in the past, and probably will do so again, but it really is hit or miss.

What he said ^

Although I wouldn't be too worried if its sold by the manufacturer themselves.

It's discontinued because Gerbings has been pushing their Microwire technology for some time. It's in their full garment lineup.

There are many online attestations on the internetz from owners of the older hardwire technology and most seem to be quite happy with it.

Myself, I'm in the Powerlet camp. One night when it was -17 outside I realized that the Powerlet liners were not even turned up halfway and they were hot. Tricky part with the Powerlets is actually not burning yourself as it can happen very easily in a matter of seconds as it uses microwave "technology" to actually cook your hands from the inside out. Makes me think twice about using it sometimes. Everyone has different temperature tolerances so of course your mileage may vary. Another bad thing about the Powerlets... they were just a bit over $100. I picked them up from Dual Sport Plus from Stoney Creek at the bike show back in Jan. They might be cheaper to buy now with the onset of warmer weather here.

After reading the whole Microwire spiel, I'm actually pretty convinced hahaha. but I will maybe check out the next bike show to see if anybody has these on sale (or the powerlets). I don't ride in -17C weather, usually just anything over freezing (mid to end of november depending on the season). Will keep an eye out for that brand too!
