Harley Rushmore

Harley is moving forward in some interesting ways. They do have EFI, ABS now as an option, proximity key as an option.

This is really stupid about bikes. The cheapest Chinese cars have EFI and ABS standard for ages. Auto makers all put on ABS for liability reasons, so how is it optional for bikes?

ABS is an option on a $20,000+++ bike? Really?

You make a good point. The Ninja 300 my buddy bought earlier this year came with ABS and a slipper clutch. The bike offered good value for all of the features it came standard with.

I understand the motivation, but man, goo cans have never worked well for me. Plus they don't do a damn thing if your tire actually rips right open.
I had one explode in the back hatch of my Porsche 944. Couldn't figure out what the hell the pop and hissing was from until I looked in the rearview mirror and watched the back window turn green.

I do prefer the older BMWs for the owner-mechanic friendliness. I don't think I could buy a new one. But that's true of most new cars too - not just high-end models either. User serviceablity is going out the window as engineering standards rise and complexity skyrockets. Hell, it's reached the point where a lot of car manufacturers are actually thinking of taking spare tires out of cars.
Part of why I love old style manual gear boxes. That Ferrari that got stuck during the floods in Toronto? His engine was still running. Car wouldn't go into gear. Transmission probably shorted out.

That's because there are so many silly motorcyclists in North America that claim ABS on a bike is stupid. For example, the 650R came with ABS since it's first model in 2006 in Europe but was never offered here until the 2012 model (I think... might've been 11). Mostly because it's becoming mandatory in Europe for safety reasons so manufacturers are trying to phase it in as an option so they can start offering just one model and save on production costs. Or at least that's my feeling about it.
