Hard Cases...interchangeability?

Hey guys,

So after all this research I was able to find a bracket that can put some hard bags onto my CBR250...took a while but I found it and the price for both the rack (top box and side racks) is around $300 inc tax/shipping.

These are specifically for Givi with a recommendation that they work with either E21 Cruiser, E41 Keyless or TRK33-46 Trekker cases. I've been searching to see if other cases (Kappa/Shad/Pelican) will fit onto these side brackets (top box is easier to figure out and most monolock ones will work) but can't find clear response anywhere.

Does anyone have any input/experience with mounting these things? Also if anyone has the cases above for sale please let me know. I think I'm going to keep the 250 another season and the hard luggage can be carried over to another bike easily simply with a new rack. That damn bike just keeps showing me how good it is and it did fantastic on the long ride this past Sunday (minus the *** pain!).

Thanks in advance.

GIVI bags can be moved from bike to bike, but you normally have to change the mounting brackets.

E41's are really big and wide, and the keyless lid portion can leak. E36's are nearly as big (36 litre vs. 41 litre), but are narrower, but I know my E36's leak a little in heavy rain. The E21's would probably be a good fit on the 250, and the top closing lid might keep the contents dryer than either the E41 or 36.

Perfect thanks. I'm leaning towards the E21s anyway as they are the smallest/narrowest and they would serve my purpose best without taking much away from the size of the bike.

Does anyone know if the other makes (Kappa/Shad/Pelican) will fit on Givi side rail mounts? I've been able to find that Kappas (they're a subsidiary/sister company with Givi) should fit, but the other ones I'm not sure if it's the same mounting system.

on a side note the e21's are great for camping. once you unload your gear you can pile ice into them and use one as a cooler. if you're campground camping of course. I'm sad I can't do that with the v35's.

If you don't need them immediately you might want to wait until SW_Motech makes side racks for your bike. I have them for my V-Strom's and the rack is removeable (which I love as I rarely put side cases on) and can, with different addapters that they make, use all kinds of different cases. These racks aren't cheap but don't seem to be much more than GIVI ras. The nicest thing is that they are removeable simply, quickly and easily.

I have both Givi E21 and E41 as well as a topcase (E52). The Topcase is always on the bike, the sidecases are almost never used. I just am not big on using side cases. Last year I did a couple of solo trips that involved tenting and even then I didn't use the side cases. (I do you them sometimes when I go to Costco.) Of the E21 and E41 I almost never use the E21's (but will keep them in case my GF ever wants to tuse them on her bike.)

Having said all of that I imagine that if you decide to get the Givi cases there are lots of other choices in their lineup and most likely something that wil suit you if you need to upgrade in the future.

Kappa and Givi are from the same factory so the mounts are the same.
Kappa is not as "pretty" or as rugged as the Givis but costs less.

I had Shad cases on my last bike. They were decent, and a bit cheaper than Givis, but it's harder to find 'fit kits' or compatible base racks with Shad luggage systems. For the new bike, the top rack was available but not the side racks - and I was broke - so I sold off the complete set.

If you are considering touring 2-up on the CBR250, check out the side racks for fit/interference with the passenger pegs. Sometimes side cases work great with passengers, sometimes not.

I miss having a top box and plan to get a top rack and top box this winter. Side cases are tempting as well but a top case is adequate most of the time, and with a high-mount pipe my side case options are limited.
