GSX R 600 - TD's laugahble quote

Got my M2 this year and am 20 years old. I am currently insured under TD for a CBR 125r which cost me $2200 for Jun - February. Clean record.

I called to ask about how much extra it'd cost me to switch to a 2003 Gixxer 600 and they said their computer "wouldn't even calculate it because it would be over $10,000". Pretty ridiculous. Is there anyone else young here with a 600cc that has gotten insurance for *erm* less than $10k? If so, where at? Jevco won't do sport bikes, and statefarm wants over 5yrs driving experience.

When were you licensed from and why can't you get something older that won't be rated as a supersport? I'm waiting till next year (21) to pull the trigger on a 2004 F4i since that'll be year 5 of driving and I have a full G with my M2.

My quotes for next year (1 year with M, 5 years with G) for the following bikes were within the 1700-3000 range (not with SF or TD):
2008+ Ninja 250r
2006+ Ninja 650r
2005+ Suzuki SV650S
2004+ Suzuki GS500F
2000+ Ninja 500r
1994 ZX7R and ZX9R

Unfortunately TD/SF are the only 2 that will give decent rates on Supersports as far as I remember...my quotes with StateFarm for next year were between 4500 and 6500 for more modern SS.

I don't think it's happening for you until you can get covered by State Farm

Yup not going to happen for another year (most likely a couple more to not get railed). Like Macs said, how long have you been driving for, if all you have is your M2, no G/G2 not sure what is so surprising about the quote tho. If you're paying 2200 for a 125 for what is essentially 1/2 a year, why are you surprised that a 600CC race bike would be above 10k for a year even if it is 9 years old?

they're legally obligated to at least give you a quote.
asking you to pay 10k/yr is their way of telling you to go away

As it turns out, I am able to get under my parents' insurance with Statefarm for $163/mo on the Gixxer 600! Dunno how much longer I'll be living with them though but works for now.

Question, if you want to insure your bike with your parents do they have to own a M license?

I will suggest deleting your posts and going with your life and paying the 160 a month, you are going to get flamed and what u put on the internet can be used against you

I pay nowhere near $ 10,000 a year... I'm only 18 and have a 2012 gsxr 600. I'm under my dad's insurance though :P My Dad is with CAA currently. He's been a long time customer and we know a couple of guys :P

Couldnt care less about this thread.

But had a chuckle at the OPs username.

Bonus points to you for originality.

I pay about 2 grand a year which I think is amazing as I just got my M2 and have a 2012 gsxr.

yes..... we get it. You don't pay a lot. That's because you're not being honest with your insurer. Do yourself a favor and stop advertising that fact

It's not that I'm not being honest with my insurer, it's the fact that the insurer is not being honest with the company he work's with. The insurer is a very close friend of my dads, thus the reason I am getting such low insurance... Why hate buddy ?

Ive had my M2 for about 2 years, started with a 2008 250R at about 2200 a year. now riding a 2009 CBR600rr and i can tell you the insurance is much more but its not over 5k. I have 1 speeding ticket about to come off in march and i turn 25 in april. this is with statefarm.

Because you are everything that is wrong with new riders, my entitled generation, and the insurance system.

I now wait for my infraction for pointing out the obvious.

Get ready for a healthy drop...probably almost 50%

Wait, how I'm I everything that is wrong with new riders? Can you please clarify that for me? Someone asked me how much I pay, I told them what I pay, then boom you guy's start getting on my back?

Its not that people are hating, Its trying to explain to new riders that insurance fraud (Wheter it is you or the broker that is doing it) is not the smartest thing because when it comes time for a major claim I hope you don't go complaining when they deny you claim.
The only way you can get insurance under your dad's stats and not yours is if you don't live at home (which they could find out very easily in an investigation on why you had the bike at the time of the claim) or to not mention you have a license which would most likely be a denied claim on anything do to fraudulent paperwork (You think your dad's buddy is going to step up and say he committed fraud with his own company???
Guess who's going to get thrown under the bus on that and have fun getting your or your dad's name on any insurance once you both have insurance fraud on your record......
