Quite the event yesterday. We had gone early to the "optional ride" in Kearney at a little bike meet. There was only my buddy and one older fella on a harley, so we went for a little scoot down the 518 to Bear lake to meet at the boat launch to kill time before the bigger meet started. When we got there, we were short a bike and were going to spin around to go see when the older gentleman showed up in a van! Turns out, he had crashed and hitched a ride to meet us (just met the guy an hour before, and this all happened in about 10 min from when we saw him last). Anyway, he lived nearby so he hopped in his truck to show us where the bike was.
What a site! 6ft down in the ditch, stopped by a tree, was what was left of his bike. Front end and wheel torn off, and he had been thrown about 15 ft clear of the tree. Anyway, we were about a half hour from my house, so we booted home to grab a trailer and an ATV to winch it out. Quite a brutal lift from that far down and no front wheel, but with some welcomed help, we got it back without more damage. After getting it back to his garage, we enjoyed a nice beer, great company with this 69 yr old, original owner of this 85 harley, and made new friends.
Remember kids, no rider gets left behind. We literally just met him, and this crash was inches away from being fatal. No matter what, stop what you're doing and keep an eye for eachother, it could easily be you
