I understand there is a sticky on importing complete bikes but I have a situation that slightly different and needed some advise.

Basically, I wanted to know what's involved in the process of bringing across parts for a bike or a complete older bike that is in pieces? The frame does have a title but the bike is about 70 percent complete but in pieces.

Do I have to declare it at the border and if so do I just pay the taxes on the used part value? Or will they overlook it cause its just junk in their eyes?

Any help is appreciated.

My understanding is that you will have to import it as parts bike, so you will still pay the taxes on it, but not RIV fee. So they will still need your purchase receipt.

Dont think you need to clear US Customs as I expect it is not going back as a bike? Declare at Canada Customs, pay duty as required drive home...

however, i am not an expert, I am sure a more complete and knowledgeable answer is coming

You are asking two different things.

If you want to bring it as parts, it is one process. If you actually want to ride it (put it back and make it into a bike), you need to import it as a motorcycle.

Parts vehicles are imported into Canada for the sole purpose of being disassembled and used for parts. The “disassembly for parts” or “to be dismantled for parts” designation as it appears on the Vehicle Imported for Parts Form – Form 3, is established either by the existing branding on the vehicle’s U.S. title or it is voluntarily declared by the importer when the vehicle is brought into Canada.

U.S. vehicles that are imported for parts enter Canada using a Vehicle Imported for Parts Form Form 3 at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) office where they cross the border.

All U.S. brand information on imported vehicles is acquired by RIV as part of the registration process. Once a vehicle is declared for parts on a Form 3 or designated as a parts-only vehicle through a vehicle title history search, it is given a non-repairable status. That status cannot be reversed, and the vehicle can never be licensed in Canada. The Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) makes all vehicle status and brands available to every licensing jurisdiction in Canada through the Interprovincial Records Exchange (IRE).

If you bring it as parts, you are wasting the clean title, once you declare it as part, you cannot license it for road use.

Yes I have no interest in building a bike out of it. If I ever did it would be a track bike but NO, I just want some of the parts to complete my restoration. So I guess I just declare that I bought some used motorcycle parts and their value then??
