Gear for occaisonal riding?

Armored gloves armored shirt or jacket, helmet - there is lots of good used gear on Kiji.
Knee armor is cheap Fox/Thoe has okay for $30 and their armored shirt is $100 which is nice for offroad and on.

Bell Mag8 is superb helmet and around for under $100. Race car driver put me on to it....very quiet and if good enough for him it's fine for me. Light too.

Michigan is not very far

Neither is PA and it's got good roads.

Exactly how is that?

For whatever reason the visors make the ground look wavy in natural sunlight. They are fine in store under artificial light but outside another story.

Its only the ground so I can see fine looking forward but the pavement looks like mogules. Makes me constantly think im going over bumps.

Great if you are in a car, but pointless as a motorcycle helmet.

Nonsense. Maybe with a $60 CDN tire Motomaster, but there is no distortion with a decent full-face visor.

Unless you know people and their issues dont call ********.

I assume it has something to do with scotopic sensitivity syndrome which I was diagnosed with as a child. ...

I have not and will not buy a helmet at CT. I went to royal and tried many different makes ranging in price from 60 to 400.

And believe me. Im still on the search. But safety has nothing to do with it. Its the bugs that annoy me. I personally would suggest a full face just for the comfort. I like the way they hug the chin area.

Decent Goggles and glasses do not have this issue with me.

You got to, at a bare minimum, a helmet, flip flops, white tank top with a d-vest on top. Even the squids have some standard on bare minimum :)

those d-vests! ..... riding with no gear doesnt bother me. But riding with no gear + d-vest.....it drives me nuts. I just dont get it.

pure squid.

Your ride, you decide.

I've been on two wheels all my life. I have my own dumb logic that doesn't make any sense. I find cycling to be the most dangerous but, I ride without gear. Motocross? Full gear. Street? Long rides and touring, full gear. Around town? My beanie and sun screen. I know the highway is safer statistically than bopping around town in a tee.

I've ridden in Florida and Ohio without a helmet. On the interstate, it wasn't as liberating as I thought. Felt down right exposed and was happy to grab my beanie on the next run.

I've roasted in the sun with leathers and it sucked.

Seriously, try and find gear that is comfortable. Textile gear can provide light weight with plenty of ventilation and decent protection. Stop if you are uncomfortable.

I will never criticize a rider for wearing too much gear. Even when they are posing at the local coffee shop. Same thing if you want to ride without.

It's good to develop safe and good riding practices early. Otherwise, you end up having bad habits like me......

called 3/4 and has cheek plates for a reason...nice bit off misleading atgatt agitprop.

Fallen offroad a few times - yet to discover what dirt tastes like.
Managed to stay upright for 45 years on the road cept for a few slides in snow.

FF are noisy and I like to talk with people and smile at them.
You ride your way I'll ride mine.
He want's some casual gear...he'll decide.....so will I.

I agree with you man.

regarding the liberation of riding with no gear- me, when I was in northern thailand for 12 months, i rode motorcycles on a daily basis on rural, city, and mountain roads.... with absolutely no gear ....and I enjoyed it. It did feel liberating. BUT- u go down....and u can become spaghetti real quick. Although it was fun, sometimes thinking back at the riding i did in thailand with no gear scares the hell outta me.

luckily....I didnt have any spills in thailand, but really its bad news waiting to happen. i have friends who went down out there at low speeds who were fine. but one friend ended up brain damaged from a collision with a car. no helmet.
