FREE Maps- for Android phones- No data or wifi needed-very nice too

I wouldn't mind a good offline map. Wonder if there's anything I can use for BB10. I haven't had to make the switch to dev mode yet (to use Android apps), but I suppose it'll happen sooner or later.

For now, google maps works fine since I don't use much bandwidth. But obviously there will be times when your reception is no good if you're really going far afield.

There was already a thread on this where we discussed Forever Map and some other options.

Google Maps doesn't work worth crap offline although I've noticed that if I get a route and start navigation, it will happily hum along following me without a data connection. I don't think it could reroute if it needed to, though. I used this method for the drive from Whitehorse to Mayo with zero cell coverage anywhere but in Whitehorse and it worked for a full 5 hours with no data. But there's only one highway so it never needs to reroute.

TomTom (US & Canada) can be had on sale for like $30 when the time is right.

Like I said above, you can make google map work offline by downloading the maps ahead of time... It will re-route you and has all the POI.

Why do you all need GPS so badly? Horrible memory or really bad sense of direction. Nobody needed GPS until GPS came along. I think I used mine twice in 5 years for about 2 turns. They are a fun toy, but c'mon!
Because it could be considered a replacement for a map that people needed for centuries. I am not sure why people stick it to their windshields on the way to work though?

Oh, another valid point towards safety for having a GPS on bike/car...
When it's pitch black and you are driving/riding through mountainous areas the GPS shows you which way the road turns in advance. This is helpful during snowy/rainy conditions. It is also a bit of a stress relief when driving at night too.

On the bike it's a good way to see well ahead which way the road winds.

I found it to be useful in that regard.
