First snow in mississauga !!

People thinking about snow tires and I am thinking about motorcycle tires and what to get next.

It was -4 when I rode to work yesterday morning, it was 18 by the time I went home in the afternoon.... crazy

Considering your Mexican heritage I find your adaptation to the Canadian winter climate commendable. The fact that you're willing to ride to work in it indicates a strong work ethic. I don't even want to roll the window down when getting my morning joe and I'm 50% Viking.

C'mon, 2 inches would be bragging.
And yeah, you're like 12. ;)

Snow tires for your bike?lol
Yup! I just put a set of TKC80's on the VFR and was out riding when the snow started to fall.

Did these tires grip better in colder temperatures than street tires?

Absolutely. They're mud+snow (M+S) rated, and I've found they're good even on black ice, not that I recommend you deliberately go out riding on black ice. Sport-touring tires (like Z6's, PR2's) were ..okay on concrete down to about -10c, but rubbish on black ice or snow over 1cm deep.

I can't say how they work down at -20c, but at -16c they were still pretty stable. My Heidenau K60 Sport M+S tires on my DL650 turned into hockey pucks at -20c.

The best winter tires would be "silica" tires (like the Heidenau K60 Silica, with the official winter tire snowflake symbol), but I haven't found anything near sportbike sizing.

Thanks. I was hoping this was the case when I bought them but wasn't sure, makes me love the TKC80'S even more now.

Just look at the sidewalls of the TKC80's and you'll find M+S.

I didn't know they were M+S until a year after I started using them. Suddenly, their brilliant performance on black ice made sense!

I would never ever ride my bike in snow but that Heidenau has 3 versions of the K60 including a winter compound is excellent information to possess.

Hmmm...need tires for the Vstrom so the kid can ride more often in winter. Thanks for info.

How would they differ from the Scouts which I was going to put on.

Unfortunately, the Silica (winter) version doesn't have a sportbike size or a DL650 size. I think they do have the stock KLR650 sizing though!

These are available tho and M+S rating.

Heidenau-K60 Scout 150/70B17 Tubeless K60 M+S (69T Load Rating) Rear Tire, 15-1060
P/N:K601507017

Heidenau-K60 Scout 90/90-21 Tubeless/Tubed M+S (54T Load Rating) Front Tire, 15-1082
P/N:K60909021

Since I was going to switch the Pilots out to K60s anyways...might do it now and get him to do the sprockets and chain which I already picked up.

Who has the best price on Heidenau in the area??

I've found Avicious cycle to have good prices for Heidenau, and usually in stock.

$279 cdn plus tax for the rear.

$251 Cdn shipped to Niagara US ( we go down all the time so there is no issue )
Pays for part of my install.
