The next day, was surprised by my family with a bike :)
1988 Suzuki Katana 600
absolutely fallen in love with the bike, and I've only ridden it for maybe 3km. After the Super Sherpa I was riding for the course, the katana seems to ride so comfortably so much more sturdy and solid feeling, Some work to do to it, but hey.. for 1200 certified and a first bike, its Perfect for me.

Just had a few questions. the ignition (the actual key section on the handle bars) is very loose so you have to jiggle the key to start it, can that be replaced without having to take the upper part of the tree off? and the back seat section, are they plastic or cushion ( its in getting a clutch cable replaced and a new chain put on so I cant check and was too excited to even think to while i was looking at it).

went to state farm today and got insurance on it a bit high but whatever.. i imagined it would be (130.62/mo) all plated and legal, now just waiting to pick it up :)

I love my family lol

Congrats on your ride. Ride safe.

Congrats!

As for the key jiggling around in the lock, it is probably the key that is either improperly cut or worn out. Motorcycle ignition cylinders rarely wear out to the point where they don't work properly, and late 80's is still fairly new (in terms of locks made back in the good old days). There might be a code somewhere on the bike that you can get a brand new key cut from. It's usually on the helmet or seat lock, but it has been known to be on the ignition cylinder as well. Gotta love how absolutely nothing is standardized when it comes to locks.

Thanks :)

Might be a noob question, but where would i find the seat and helmet locks on the bike when i get it home? and would if it is on the cylinder is there a way to get in there to get the number or what not without removing the front cowl? First street bike lol i know absolutely nothing yet but looking forward to learning :)

The seat lock should be on the side of the bike, somewhere near the back on the left side (just a guess, as this is where it has been on my past 3 bikes). Not sure where the helmet lock would be or if there is even one, but those two locks are usually close together. The only way to get those numbers is to take the locks right off the bike. If the locks have the key codes on them, they will be hand stamped on the side of the cylinder.

As for taking the ignition cylinder off, I have no idea how to do that. I'm just a locksmith so I only have a general idea on how to do things. There might be security screws holding it in place to the top triple tree.
