Fairing kits

So a few days ago in the 15-30 minutes it took me to do some groceries at the mall one of two things happened, either;

A) Someone tried to steal my bike and was stopped by a combination of my handlebars being locked and my gorilla alarm scaring the **** out of the entire neighborhood.

B) Someone decided they really didn't like my bike.

Either way my bike wound up a few feet away from its original parking spot and on it's left side.

Good news is my frame sliders prevented the gear lever from getting pushed in and other than the engine having been drowned for a few minutes everything seems to still be running smoothly.

Bad news is my back left fairing is now in 3 or more pieces (only found 3) and no amount of crazy glue will likely ever keep those pieces solidly in place. I may in fact remove the whole thing as I am afraid one of the remaining pieces will fly off while I ride as they seem very very loose. Also the reflector on my rear fender snapped off.

For now I will ride it as is since the season is almost over but I'm hoping to replace the fairing and fender next year so I'm looking at options.

  • kijiji; I looked a while back after I low sided the bike and I swear everyone I contacted that had the fairing I needed was ready to sell then and there but then were no shows when it came time to actually meet and finalize the transaction. I'm starting to get really tired of that site.
  • Order from Kawasaki through a re seller.
  • Get a Chinese one from ebay or http://www.dhgate.com/wholesale/kawasaki+ninja+250r+fairing.html get it in a different color (never liked the red.) and have the tank painted to match.

Figured I'd ask and see if anyone had other options or any input on the Chinese ones, I did do a bit of research on it, found a guy with a video of his and it doesn't look horrible, he did say he had to expand one or two holes to get some of the bots in.

The season is over. Just keep checking kijiji and ebay.

You can search this forum for threads on Chinese fairings. According to people who installed them, they could be good or could be really bad.

I put a set of fairings on my bike from auctmart.com. Fitment was great and price was good. Needed very little dremel work on a few holes to have it fitting OEM tight. 03 CBR has a plastic tank cover so whole bike looks great. PM me your cell number and I can send you some pics if you'd like.

You get what you pay for.

I would try and get a new/used OEM panel off kijiji or a forum somewhere.

The chinese stuff is cheap for a reason. Panel fit is never quite right and it will never look as good as OEM.

I've heard they are much improved though. Especially when it comes to fitment. To be honest, considering what people want for used fairings, Hong Kong may be the way to go.

Also, are you SURE you can't fix them? You have 4 months now to play around with some fibre glass. If you don't need a show finish that is.

Dont use superglue. Look in to plastic welding. Basically, abs pipe glue is your best bet since it fuses the parts together.

There's also a how-to kicking around on here on how to make molds of the missing pieces and make your own using melted ABS pipe or melted Legos (acetone will melt ABS pretty easily). I've made ABS filler using just melted chunks of old ABS drain pipe.

Depending on the bike you can find OEM fairings for way less money in Asia or Europe.

Legend has it, abs pipe shrinks. It might have some aditives intended to shrink the pipe for better seal.

If you're going to buy china fairings make sure you get the INJECTION MOULDED and not the compression moulded. I have china fairings on my Busa and had no issues with fitment.

Any one have a source for the metal clips that go around plastic tabs?

I feel like Lowes carries those. I remember seeing them in a thread about DIY mudflaps for cars.

Canadian tires sells those - speednuts.

Bought a china set for a cbr600rr, very tight fit but looked amazzzinggg, probably because i really liked the design.

Then bought a set for cbr1000rr, nearly perfect fit...
Bad part were the spelling mistakes.

For example.
