Emergency Ontario insurance

Hey there...I know this must have been covered in the past a million times, but the insurance landscape has changed recently in Ontario. I'm having a problem getting insurance as I have 4 minor traffic tickets. No claims, no crashes, no major offences. Just 4 traffic convictions the first of which will not be lifted before July 2014. I'm 41 and ride a 650 V-strom, and live in downtown Toronto. And it seems no one wants my business. I was with Jevco but they were swallowed up by Intact and more than 3 tickets is their cutoff...which is also the case for Rider's, TD and State Farm. So my question...does anyone know a company willing to write a middle aged 4-time loser on a fairly sedate touring bike? Jevco was charging me a grand with the 4 tickets last year. Any suggestions? My broker didn't inform me that my insurance wasn't being renewed until I inquired today so as of Oct 23rd I am insuranceless...and I don't think I can take missing the first half of next season...or the last bit of this season, for that matter. Anyone?

Thanks in advance and apologies for the tired question.

L.

Any insurance broker can give you a facility quote. It won't be pretty, but you are eligible and you can ride.

^^ this. If NOBODY will insure you (I had 26 convictions on my record) then the insurance Ombudsman will "assign" you a company (but like GreyGhost said, the rate isn't pretty). At one point I was paying a little less than $1000/mo. for my 2000 CBR 929.

Good luck.

Damn, which police gods did you piss off?
Once you get a few the cops cut you no breaks! I had 13 charges on 1 ticket one time, he thought I was trying to "evade" him. He wasn't a happy camper.

Another time I got pulled over and the cop asked "Any guns in the car?" (from my record he pulled up). I said "Not today, no." lol. He didn't think that was funny :(

You musta had a few bucks to be able to pay that! :P
Zero expenses, working crazy hours. Would only need to make $250/week to cover that ;)

Thanks man...I did get a facility quote from a broker, came in just under $3k per year...I can't believe it but I'm actually considering. But then the thought of nearly a year without riding is unbearable. WTF else do I have to spend my money on anyway? Cancel my cable, sell the car, and I'm barely any worse off. Or I might see how much less a facility quote on a 250 would be, riding it til July then selling it. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any companies that were willing to take riders with more than 3 tickets. A year ago it seemed there were options if you had 4, Jevco the best of them. But now there's literally no one. This province is really getting out of control. I remember the days when we used to be able to make fun of American speed enforcement, but those days are over. Ontario is as bad or worse than most states now.

I had tickets too and it was really hard to get dicent coverage. No problems getting insurance in general, but the fees were killing me. Through my friends I found insurance broker who (she) managed to get me a deal i would never get directly from insurance company. For privacy reasons I can't give you her contacts, but would siggest asking around, someone should know someone...

Split it up, divided by 11. But now I'm scanning kijiji to see if I can find a 200-250 dual sport...or even a new CRF 250 to get my through to the end of next July. Then I could turn around and sell it and recoup a nice chunk of that money. Provided of course that a facility rate on a 250 is substantially less. That may not be the case. but it beats setting $3000 on fire or missing most of next season. I was even considering picking up a Grom. They're listing for $3200 and I imagine they won't have depreciated much by summer.

your best bet right now is to find a good paralegel to fight your most recent ticket.\if they apply and are granted an apeal then it will be tossed back into the courts for the next 8 months. in that time your last ticket will drop off. if you are granted the apeal you will have the last ticket stricken off your record until you go back to court.

appeal a conviction? is that an option? I have four full convitions...I didn't realize you could appeal them after voluntarily paying the ticket...in effect pleading guilty. is that something I can do to stall?

if u didnt have a lawyer you can apeal it under the the fact you didnt have repersentation. Iv done it in the past to ride out a ticket. but you are also going to have to show some sort of idea as to how you can fight it. they will ask y u r appealing it, you convince the,m and its a go. you can apply for the appeal with out the paralegel, if they allow it then get one.

Aviva can write you, there is no ticket cap on bikes unless you have a claim.

Somewhere I heard that having a facility on your record creates a stigma. An underwriter might know for sure.
