Electric Golf Carts??? What to know

We are thinking of purchasing's an electric golf cart for my parent's birthdays. Something used within $3-5K.

I have never purchased one or nor do I know anything about them.

What do I need to know when checking them out?
Anything to look out. Anything to avoid?

My parents used to have a 36v cart. It was a dog. They aren't speed demons but appreciate not slowing to a crawl up hills 48v cart is what I would be looking for.

Beyond that, I don't have much to offer.
