Ear protection?

I do. Bought 2 pairs of ear plugs and I put them in when I know I'm going to take the highway or any roads above about 80. Sometimes I forget and I'll pull off the road and put them in.

When I am not listening to music, I am wearing earplugs...
I picked up a few sets of these ones

And they work really well...
Still lets me hear the motor and other cars around me, while decreasing wind noise dramatically, especially on the highway.
Thinking about getting custom ones at the Jan. show next year.

I dislike how standard earplugs hurt my ears after a few minutes, so yea, custom sounds good to me.

I don't ride with ear protection, wind noise has never really bothered me (maybe helmet better than some??) but even if I wanted to, my ears are weird somehow, nothing stays in them. Earplugs and earbuds alike, they all fall out seconds after putting them in.

It won't bother you now, but 10+ years down the road your outlook may change.
Get custom ones at the Jan. show, they'll be sure to stay in, if i'm not mistaken, they look something like this...

Wear them all the time. Filters the wind noise, while still allowing you to hear all the important stuff.

These are pretty close to what I use .Wouldn`t ride without them .

I just picked up a new set today. For comfort and effectiveness I use Surefire EP3's. $14 a pair and they last 3 - 6 months.

Once I discovered earplugs, Ive been riding with them ever since.
Makes the ride so much enjoyable by filtering out, and feeling in such a better and less fatigued condition when you arrive at final destination.

Ive been using Disposable Earplugs that can be bought in with 200 in the box.
These ones Ive found to be the best all around disposable ear plugs.

I've been wearing earplugs when ever I ride, like others have said it filters out the wind noise while allowing me to hear traffic.

I wish I had worn them from the start many years ago. I never heard of anyone using earplugs other than superbike riders on the track. Now my hearing is definitely not the best. In any kind of noisy environment a can't hear people at all. If I put the foam eaplugs in now properly, there is dead silence. I can't hear a thing.

This video is a lot longer than it needs to be and gets posted in most of these threads, but it's always new to someone:

When I first started riding (just this March), I was advised by a friend of mine (15+ years riding experience) to not wear ear protection. He claimed that it shut out the sound that you really want to hear - so I didn't bother.

After riding with another friend (also a long-time rider) who DID wear ear plugs, I thought about giving them a try. He told me he's been wearing the inexpensive house-brand ones sold at Shopper's Drug Mart. So, I bought a package of 10 or so. First ride out - everything sounded nice and clear, without any irritating white noise. The plugs made riding easier.

If you're not sure if you want to invest in a package of 200 plugs right away, give Shopper's a try.

Earplugs all the time.

+1

I wear the laser lites. Very comfortably. I've worn them almost since I first started riding. It really helps to reduce all the wind noise and makes the ride more enjoyable.

I use the beige 32 db ones that you can get for cheap from shopper's or wal-mart. Give them a try; you won't ride without them after. I only ever ride without plugs if it's short jaunts where I know I won't be going faster than 60-80 km/h. And when I am, I'm freaking out at how the engine sounds different and wonder if there's something wrong with it.

I wouldn't mind a pair of custom ones. Except with the way my ears are, the plugs get coated with a thick layer of earwax and then I throw them out after a few uses, so I'd rather stick with cheap ones.

I tried earplugs for the first time tonight and you are right, they help you focus on what's important plus saving your heading. I kinda felt like I was in my own acoustic bubble, but I could still hear the louder noises around me. One downside though is I can't hear my bike growl as loud.
