Ducati Eyed by Hero MotoCorp as Indian Motorbike Maker Looks for Takeovers

Bajaj owns almost 40% of KTM and they're doing alright. It started off as a 12% investment some years ago and has grown over time. They're busy launching new models and expanding their lineup.

It boils down to a huge capital infusion into a company, and that's rarely a bad thing. These guys wouldn't be dumb or brazen to interfere in the day-to-days IMO.

How will this sit with the Ducati traditionalists it would be interesting as does this means that Ducati will loose some of their exotic market image. But on the other hand it represent a great opportunity to gain more market shares in India as they are one of the BRIC countries.

Ducati ownership has been around the block. Texas-Pacific group owned it for almost 15 years just recently and even now ownership is through a number of investment holding firms including an Ontario hospitals pension plan

I dont think people care about who owns what. They care about the product and where its designed and built.

Eh ... Jaguar is owned by Indians and Lotus is owned by Malaysians, people hardly even noticed. Generally you don't buy a property like this to start messing around with it.

VW had shown interest back in 2009. Not sure if they are still interested. Regardless it doesn't matter where the funding comes from although perception is a powerful thing. VW would be a better fit.

Difference will be next to nothing.
Hero may try to raid Ducati's tech a bit, but that's it. Hero's top scooter is like $2500 in Cdn funds. They're not going to try to take anything too expensive from Ducati 'cause it'll make their product too expensive for their home market.

Besides - Hero has contracted Erik Buell Racing for engineering. EBR will be the r&d skunkworks for them just like they were for HD -- but note, EBR isn't owned by Hero at all, just contracted.
