I'd be tempting to not take a swing at those cabbies head with my kevlar kuckle gloves.
I have a whole new respect for you folks dealing with the pathetic driving habits of the cabbies downtown. Was driving up Jarvis towards Bloor in my cage this quiet sunday morning and in the span of 3 city blocks with no other traffic on the road I had a cabbie bust a U-turn in front of me without checking first to pick up a fare in the other direction. Two blocks further up while my light was green, another cab sailed through the red in front of me like it wasn't even there causing me to lock up and slide. I laid my horn as he rolled past my front bumper but he didn't even flinch, just had a stupid little smirk on his face like "O well, my bad".
I can't imagine riding a motorcycle in these circumstances doing maybe 10-15k faster speed if there would even be enough reaction time. My hats off to you guys/gals who put up with this crap on a regular basis. I've always heard the legend of the Toronto cabbies lousy driving skills but witnessing it firsthand was definitely an experience to behold! Next up, towtruck operators....
I remember my anatomy... keep your ******* behind you.
Honestly every light I burst in front of them if I can. And they are becoming less aggressive and usually let me in now![]()
LESS aggressive? Lately I've seen far more cabbies straddling the line so that they can whichever lane moves first, while stopping anyone behind from passing them. I've seen more of them pacing, to stop people from getting around them. "The U-turn of death" is still alive and well, and practised in Toronto. Right turns from left lanes. Left turns from right lanes. Splitting pedestrians in crosswalks. Reversing down one-way streets, to try and beat the law. Swerves from the fast lane to the curb lane followed by a panic stop, to pick up a fare.
All of this I've seen, in just the past two months.
Whenever you are ready....I like where you're going with this. When do we start eliminating them? *pets crowbar with creepy smile on face*
Should've ran over and demanded to press charges for good measure. At the very least you would've made sure the taxi didn't walk away with a warning.
You can't really "demand" to press charges since, unlike in the US, in Canada The Crown presses the charges. Sure, you can go through various convolutions to have charges pressed, yourself, but that's a different and much more complex issue.
Three things you can't predict the actions of: cabbies, children, squirrels
eh you get use to it... i come across worse drivers outside of downtown... cabbies is another story... just keep your distance
And some people wonder why I'm sporting a front and rear video camera on the bike, these days. Wish that I could side mount 'em too.
Perhaps all these cabbies are angry that they can't become doctors here and take out their frustrations on us?
