Don't make the same mistake I did (Cheap Key Copy)

So, being a new bike owner, I have toured to several bike shops in search of customizing my new bike. One of the shops offered key cutting and had Honda replica key blanks. I figured with my bike being red I would get a red key cut ... I know in looking back it was kinda stupid. So the key gets cut, we check it out on the ignition .. starts the bike fine ... do you think we tried the other two places the key would need to go.. NO!

So I ride around some and decide that I need something out of the rear cubbie which you need the key to open. The key needed to be played around with for several minutes to get the stupid thing open. At this point any person would just switch back to the regular key right .. well not me cause I am ridiculous!

So I ride until I need gas .. as in the bars are flashing. I pull into the only gas station I know in the area (Lakeshore and Bathurst) and put the key in the gas cap. You have got to be kidding me ... I for the life of me can not get the gas lid unlocked. I have somewhere to be in 30 minutes ... and I don't have enough fuel to get home ... I'm freaking. Luckily .. I am wearing the pants that I had worn to get the key cut and the original is still in the zipped up pocket .. if it wasn't ... I don't know what I would have done! Lesson learned ... hopefully someone else learns from this too!

Your posts are having a de-stabilyzing effect on my emotions. I hope you're just going thru a rough patch because I don't know how much more of this I can take. Be well, brother.

I dont have the best of luck when it comes to things and considering this is my first bike I chalk it all up to learning curves :)

At least I get to share all of my crappy experiences with the good people of GTA Motorcycle Forums .... muhahahaha.

Strange. Usually the key will work in the gas tank and seat, but not the ignition. The ignition uses more tumblers. My copied key only works one way/side in the ignition, but is fine in the tank and seat locks.

I blame it on the cut.. it wasn't correctly cleaned off/done right. I bought a $5 key blank off ebay and i'm still using it to this day.. no issues

Agreed it was the cut. The only mistake you made was not trying it on all the locks. Not a big deal , lesson learned. I always find it funny the little things that happen to us as we ride

And we want to hear about your crappy experiences, why?
Given your propensity for bad luck perhaps a motorcycle might not be the best thing for your safety.
Good luck, ride safe.

BTW- Why are you blaming Learning Curves?
