Do you like riding in groups?

Most of my riding is solo; however, I do enjoy riding in a group from time to time. The trick is to find others who share your riding ability and style. For me group rides are with two long-time friends, or members of ST-Owners.
 
Never been in a HUGE group ride, 4 or 5 was the largest. It is definitely fun when they are better than you. I find myself only leaning hard and all that when I'm riding with 1 or 2 people I know well that are skilled.
 
I went of a few large group rides and thought it was awesome - but the disorganization and propensity of things to go wrong is too high. 2/6 large group rides I went on had issues, so I stopped it.

Now I ride completely solo, unless a friend or two of mines actually calls me out for a ride, but that's rare because of my friends that ride - most are older with kids, etc, and the others ride mostly at the track. I wish I knew a few dudes with similar riding habits that would wanna go on weekend rides :(
 
I don't mind riding in groups, it's pretty fun every once in a while. Lately I've been on a few really well organized large group (10+) rides with some friendly riders. I will continue to go those ones. But I've also been on a few in the past with some real winners as well. I tend to try to stay away from those groups now and choose my riding group a bit more carefully.

Most of the time I'm riding solo and it's also great. It's nice to just have some time to yourself and ride. That said I have a few friends that ride and we will ride together.
 
Anyone that has not tried Scala etc - it makes a huge difference in enjoyment with 2 or 3 riders - very very different dynamic.

Not all will like it but IF I'm riding with a buddy then it's my preferred method.

For instance yesterday with the kid - we were part way home and he said that's a cool looking place for coffee and we pulled in - no maneuvering and shouting.
Same if there is a cool road.

We found also that letting the person running the route ( GPS in their ear or in view ) lead from the rear worked really well - the lead rider followed instructions and could look out for road hazards etc and pass them on.

Split the work and focus aspect. The GPS person could ride knowing the way ahead was relatively free of issues.
( we ride normal distance staggered - just enough to be comfortable and in line of sight )

It really is a very different experience.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this. It seems like it would be a non stop talking hen party, total opposite to what I enjoy.

The group I ride with has been debating on grabbing a few headsets. However, some of us believe that we'll die from laughter (literally) and not pay attention to the road lol
 
Big group rides turn into cluster****s QUICK. You also loose the one thing motorcycles are great, maneuverability. Once you are tied to a dozen other bikes progress becomes slow and laborious. In traffic where you would be able to change lanes and keep the momentum going you are now braking and stuck behind a car as doing that maneuver would separate the group. Maybe not the first time but enough times and its no longer a group ride.

On the other hand you have group rides where everyone goes berserk and you end up looking like an extra from a high pursuit chase scene. I remember one ride where everyone rode a liter bike or faster and i literally maxed out my VTR keeping up...screw that noise. I told them after we stopped if they pull that stunt again not to worry about me not meeting up at the next stop as i'd be heading home.

yeah I could see that .....chatter is fun till someone in the lead F's up.
 
A random group ride I'd probably skip, but There's a few friends I would go out for a ride on at a moments notice. Definitely prefer small groups, 4-6 bikes at the most.
 
I used to go out with a girl that wouldn't shut up for a minute in our 10 hr rides, it was cute and hilarious, I enjoyed that a lot believe it or not...weird
 
I don't mind group riding when everyone is on the same page = both speed wise and experience wise. I love sweeping because it is so relaxing at the back. When things get out of hand I just bail...
 
No I don't ride in groups. The only time you'd see me in groups is during demo rides and find it annoying. At times I ride with just one close friend.
I use my bike for commuting everyday; rain or shine. With a family I don't have time to go for group joyrides like most of the riders here.
To each his own I guess.
