Most laws are fine. It's the application of them, that's occasionally screwed.

The simple answer was because the driver turning left had no reasonable expectation that by doing so he/she would kill someone.

Ok, you give someone a push, they fall off the side of a curb and smack their melon on the concrete. They die. You get manslaughter. What's the difference of a car turning left? You had no intention of killing or even hurting the other person with a push. A driver doesn't intend to kill a person by turning left.

They get off with careless or something along those lines, you go to jail.

Where's the justice in that?

There is no justifiable reason for shoving someone in the course of your travels, whereas making a left turn is a normal and expected part of navigating a vehicle. Surely you see the distinction between the two.

There is such a thing as vehicular manslaughter. That is when the driver drives recklessly as in street racing and kills someone. Careless and reckless are different. Careless is lack of attention. A cager making a left turn into a motorcycle is careless and not intentional.

I don't know man I'm constantly driving power jacks and machineries at full throttle pedal to the medal honking at every intersections just so I don't accidently seriously injure any of my co-workers.

If left turning cagers cared about the consequences their vehicle can inflict on others I'm sure they'd pay more attention before committing to that left instead of the lame excuse "i didn't see him/her." Maybe we have to resort to Asian customs of constantly honking when we're passing someone and making turns just to grab others attention instead of seeing honking as a signal of our mere flaws in driving.
