What would be the symptoms of a FI bike with a gas tank that has a clogged vent ?

I m helping out a Bud who is concerned that his bike wont accelerate with low fuel. When he opened his gas tank, a noticeable vacuum sound emits so we think his tank is not venting properly. With a full tank the bike runs fine.

Would the fuel pump starve if the tank's air is depleting as the fuel level lowers?

"When he opened his gas tank, a noticeable vacuum sound" That is your best indicator right there, it should not be happening.
Can a vacuum build inside the fuel tank and reduce your fuel pressure, yes. If the bike is real old and there are rubber hoses inside the fuel tank those can rot away and leak as well, it can cause the same symptom, except for the vacuum in the tank that is totally a venting issue.

Note: Best practice is to keep as much fuel in the tank as possible, particularly under extreme hot operating conditions, the fuel is what your fuel pump relies on for cooling.

#12, 13 & 15 are vent hoses - pull the tank and make certain they aren't clogged. tank .jpgtank .jpg
