Did not winterize sport bike this season

As the title says.. I did not winterize my bike for the first time in 3 years.

I know there is just barley any gas left in my tank, and the oil has not been changed for 2000 kilometres.

I stopped riding on Dec 13, 2011; the bike is currently parked in my living room. There are no leaks, or smells coming from the bike. I also did not end up putting my battery on a trickle-charge. I know, I know - I'm an idiot for it.

I'm currently in Toronto, and will be going back to Montreal this weekend - I'm going to go buy a new battery, and charger, oil, oil filter, and perhaps try to drain the gas out of the tank, and place a new fuel filter in it - or i might just try to charge the battery over the weekend, fill it up, fire her up and put a stabilizer in it for the next couple of weeks.

Unlike Toronto, Montreal is still ****** to ride at the moment.

Do you think my carbs have clogged?

What about my oil? Do you think it started eating away inside my bike with the corrosiveness?

Thanks for the help guys.

**My buddy and I are planning to take apart the r6 (I have the manual printed out in-front of me) - we have all the tools, bike stands to do the job. We are not going take apart every piece, but we are going to take the rims off, take the chain off and replace the entire area around that. I need to replace the bearings as well. We will also be changing the lights, windshield, frame sliders (All that jazz).

I plan to clean all the parts with gasoline or some solvent remover to get off all the sludge that has built up over the years.

I think you're panicking over nothing. The fact the bike has been in a warm environment means you're probably ok. It;s the cold that sludges gas in carbs, helps destroy batteries etc etc. Chances are it'll either a) fire right up, or b) fire up after the battery is charged for an hour or so.

I didn't winterise my track bike. All i did was drain the coolant. It fired right up 2 weeks ago and I did 3 track days with just an oil change.

The inside of your bike is completely hollow now its just a shell of its former self.

So, as I understand it - you have a carbed bike that you stored indoors, heated with a partial tank of gas and no battery charger.

You shouldn't need to worry about corrosion much at all, either in your tank or elsewhere, if you've stored your bike inside and heated.

Your carbs should not have clogged. The gasoline should not have chemically decomposed in 90 days.

Your battery should be fine unless there was something else wrong with it.

I don't understand why you think your oil will eat your engine. Is it because it's got 2000kms on that oil? I change mine every 5k so I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

Sounds like I should have winterised my wife.

Thanks guys. I wasn't panicking - I just figured I got to get on it now, because I'm seeing all these nice motorcycles downtown Toronto riding around, I just really want to get back on my bike.

its f***ed... but I will help you out and by your bike for $500.

thats pretty funny, considering your name....haha

your bike will be fine

but if anything in future, fill your tank and use stabil. Battery tender and done.

2 very very simple things to do and its plenty for winterization. Specially indoor storage.

Your bikes are all garbage now. Just leave them outside beside the trash for the garbage trucks to haul them away.

I've never winterized a bike. They have all been parked outside in an open sided car port. Only fill up the gas tank to cut down on condensation.
Ride during the winter, whenever it is nice enough. The winters have been so mild lately that the bike usually gets ridden at least once a month all year round.
I've never had a problem with the battery or the engine.
Perform the regular maintenance in the spring and away you go.
